We would like to introduce you to another project that we have selected for our cultural promotion program 2026. The project 'A Letter from Home' is a short docufiction film inspired by Li Chaolin's (@libing_9 ) family history that explores familial bonds—both genuine and incidental—across three generations. 'The Letter from Home' is a narrative process in progress. Its origins date back to a true story Li Chaolin's family experienced. In the late 1980s, a letter sent from Taiwan, after a long wait, unexpectedly connected families who had not known each other before, bringing with it the memories and emotions of three generations. Years later, as Li Chaolin herself constantly navigates between home and elsewhere, memory becomes a passageway. It opens up a space where everyday life, history, and what has never been said unfold between reality and fiction. The experience of diaspora life, absence, and collective wounds passed down from generation to generation recur constantly in narratives marked by the ruptures of major historical upheavals. Through family archives, letters, images, and voices Li Chaolin follows the letter with the moving image. In search of a possible place to settle, at the crossroads of wandering and sedentarization, in a process of slow and continuous collective healing. LI CHAOLIN is an artist and cultural worker whose practice moves fluidly across collective processes, diasporic experiences, and storytelling. The experience of growing up in a small town in Southwest China, and later studying and living in France and Switzerland, they developed a sense of perceiving the hidden layers in everyday life, much like the moon, always present, sometimes invisible. Comme les racines posées à la suite de l’exil, de la Chine vers la Suisse, du Québec vers la France, nous avons ancré nos pieds dans le sol, à la recherche de parallèles entre le souvenir et le présent, comme ces deux chiffres qui ont mené à notre rencontre virtuelle : le 3353, nom d’un espace d’art, et le 3355, adresse du dépanneur familial. Nos vécus de la lutte des classes et de l’altérité ainsi tissés font vivre ce qui est voué à disparaître, le temps d’une déambulation. Dans Nez Noir, elle propose une performance cartographique originale du Valais et décoloniale. En équilibre sur son fil, elle tricote et démêle les fils de son identité et du lien qu’elle entretient avec la région. Estelle livre avec Nez Noir une forme très libre, radicalement intime et emblématique de son travail. La narration commence par un album de famille sans images : à la première personne, «je» raconte l’herstoire de chaque photo, mettant en avant des souvenirs perdus, oubliés ou effacés. L'éternité a pris fin. Je retourne en Syrie avec ma maman pour la première fois en 15 ans, jamais aussi consciente que bien que je parle arabe couramment, je suis rarement considérée syrienne. Une mère, donner la nationalité?! Un cheminement dans la Syrie post-dictature, perçue par une anomalie culturelle issue de mixité raciale et culturelle. 𝕴‘𝖒 𝖘𝖔𝖗𝖗𝖞，𝕭𝖆𝖇𝖞 began with an accumulation of refusals，I started archiving all the "NO" messages that I received related to my life as an artist: declined applications, funding refusals, visa denials, unanswered proposals, broken-off conversations, romantic goodbyes, and so on. Some came from my own archive, others were shared by my artist friends. then I began hand-transcribing these fragments onto rose petals. The “no”s danced, between vulnerability and bureaucracy, between the personal and the professional. Each one carried one refusal. Seeing the petals slowly dry felt like witnessing something suspended between dying and undying . As i continue to make this work. More refusals keep coming in, two more just recently, from art applications. At the same time, I’ve been recovering from a more personal “no”—someone said no to me. Over time, the project has turned into an ongoing living performance. I chose to present the petals on a glory-red carpet. (Fun fact: the piece was shown during the Cannes Film Festival.)
