Middle School Monarch. I’m still processing all of the love from this weekend. If you got me flowers (!!!!), showed up to the event, or shared words of support with me— I deeply and truly appreciate it more than you know. ❤️ It’s not lost on me how incredibly blessed and lucky I am to have been able to experience the presence, warmth and community that you’ve all gifted me with. I hope to keep taking pictures of my community for as long as I live. The best part of making art will always be getting to make it with my friends. Thank you to @a.asmg for being the best model I could’ve asked for. Thank you to @vizionmillz for coming through with lighting, advice and equipment on such short notice— I have no idea what I would’ve done without you. Thank you to @geboy.ceesay — you’re always my first choice of cinematographer. Stomping Grounds is such a special initiative that I’ll always be honoured to have been a part of for the rest of my life. I hope to share more from this shoot soon. “Islam began as something strange and return to being strange, so give glad tidings to the strangers.” My name is Libin Ahmed, and I want to create strange art. This campaign was truly a labour of love. With no budget, virtually no experience and a tight deadline to make in between a full-time job— it was one of the most stressful and rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. The idea of Strangers has continued to grow from my short film last year into a world of its own and I can’t wait to share where it goes next. Huge shoutout to @shootforpeace_ , @voadanfilms , @heltinoo and @hellyah.cc for their guidance and patience with us this year. Our class was so lucky to have experienced your expertise and leadership and I’ll never forget that. It still feels so surreal that the opportunity I prayed so hard for in 2024, has come and concluded in 2025. I’m also endlessly grateful to Kerry and the entire @13thround.life staff for hearing me out on my crazy idea and letting me use their space— completely free of charge. This shoot never EVER would’ve happened if it wasn’t for their trust and support. If you’re interested in self-defence, make sure you check them out because they offer their services COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE for those who may not be able to access them for financial reasons. KICKBACK FOREVER 💙🤍🖤 If you asked me what I wanted to do with my future in 2023, I probably would’ve told you I had no idea. Today, I would still tell you I have no idea, but I can confidently say that whatever my future is— I know it’ll be bright and I know that Kickback will have played a huge role in it. I joined Kickback‘s first ever Reframe cohort in 2024 out of sheer curiosity, despite having no background or prior knowledge of film and simply an interest in learning something new. I never could have anticipated that it would be one of the most pivotal choices I’d ever make. From creating my very first film, to showcasing it in front of a hundred people at the CBC Centre last winter, Kickback has continually invested in young people like me into realizing our full potential. Kickback doesn’t just plant seeds, they make sure we grow into people to be proud of. And I will never be able to thank them enough for it. 💙🤍 Thank you endlessly to @kickbackfoundation and @ruthmasuka for the gifted TIFF pass. The experience was nothing short of surreal and I’ll never stop being grateful. 💙🤍
