I’m very excited @controllingthenarrativefilm will be screening Sunday, August 10, 4pm at @omsi with @thepfcat ! It’s the literal biggest screen in town! The film screens as part of the Magical Realism: Journeys Into Other Worlds program. Get ready to bend your mind. Hope to see you there!
For many years now, I have been quietly dreaming of breaking into the fortress of commercial directing. The commercial industry is particularly prone to staying in its comfort zone in terms of who gets hired and which stories are told. Historically, it has been considered risky to invest in new voices, to give people the space to learn and grow, and to trust that audiences will show up for something different.
But exposure to new ideas, communities, and ways of being in the world is what makes this art form powerful enough to change us. The best media inspires us to recognize that what we used to think was impossible, is actually possible.
Gary and the team at Limbo Films believes in and invests in that vision of the future. I am so grateful and proud to be welcomed to their roster of commercial directors.
Growing up on a commune and then a farming community in rural Massachusetts, I did not know of a single person working in media of any kind. Thank you Gary for “taking a risk” on me, for believing in me, and for giving me the opportunity to help show the world what is possible.

It’s hard to believe all of these things happened in one weekend, then again, it’s me we’re talking about.
First, @controllingthenarrativefilm , a short film 4 years in the making premiered at the @hollywoodtheatr for @pdxpanorama . It was such an incredible event. Besties surprise flew in from out of state, which made me immediately burst into tears before the film even started. Family and friends came from far and wide (thanks dad), and the audience was packed with cast, crew, and incredible community. It was so, so special.
Next up: A killer karaoke birthday party for my ride or die. Neighborhood Easter egg “hunt” is more like Lord of the Flies. Carter and Zadie know how to make an entrance for the most beautiful (and delicious) Passover Seder. And to top off the weekend, everyone gets a massage from our resident massage therapist.
Just wow.
And still, every Fall, the trees give the world this gift of impossible color.
A last spark of life to hold us through the long Winter.
Something to remind us what will return again, ever again, come Spring.
Congratulations also to the @wifpdx Vision Grant finalists for short narratives in post-production!
The finalists are:
Fuchsia Lin @secrettigersmile with “Future Cosmos Flow”
