We’re taking you behind the scenes of the recording of the Black Art Song Anthology in Rochester — a project that has been as powerful as it has been meticulous.
Producer Jonathan Estabrooks introduces Steve Roessner, our engineer and co-producer on this album as he breaks down the incredible detail behind the sound: 20 microphones placed throughout the space. From the main pairs of TLM103s to safety mics, dedicated piano mics, ambient pairs, and a blend of cardioid and omnidirectional microphones, each one capturing a different perspective of the ensemble for both a stereo and ATMOS mix!
It’s a reminder that great recordings aren’t just performed, they’re engineered with intention.
