Plashet Road, our development of 65 affordable, Passivhaus-certified council homes for @newhamlondon received a @ribalondon Award as well as the Sustainability Award at last night's ceremony!
In the words of Jury Chair, Matthew Lloyd @matthewlloydarchitects :
"The overall impression of this new housing block is of humanity, propriety and good design, with no hint of either opulence or bragging.
This is a lovely contemporary housing block which seems entirely comfortable in its characteristically ordinary London setting. Upon leaving the site, the jury felt a sense of optimism for the future of public housing based upon this project. It does so many things well, but also modestly and appropriately, to provide excellent and affordable homes in which local people can happily live."
Congratulations to the entire design team of this extraordinary project!

Our recently completed work for @habsmonmouth in Wales involved transforming six buildings across the estate, combining refurbishment with new build to create modern teaching spaces and support the school in its transition to a co-educational model.
The new masterplan was developed alongside a detailed decarbonisation strategy, providing a clear route towards achieving net zero carbon.
“As our work at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School demonstrates, refurbishment and adaptation must be the first consideration when seeking sustainable, transformational change. Innovative retrofit can extend a building’s lifetime, achieve high environmental performance and create inspiring spaces for learning,” said Director Victoria Turner.

Plashet Road, our passivhaus-certified development of 65 new council homes for @newhamlondon , is shortlisted for the @riba London Awards!
The project delivers 100% affordable homes and a nursery around a shared courtyard that sits at the heart of the new community.
The building responds sensitively to its context by placing the new homes behind the trees that surround the site, setting it back from the street, creating a spacious green buffer with understorey planting to enhance biodiversity.
RIBA London regional director John Nahar said: ‘This year’s London shortlist showcases talent across multiple sectors, from private residences and affordable housing to major cultural institutions, education, healthcare, and more.
Together, these shortlisted projects demonstrate the innovation, commitment, and creative energy that shapes our city.’

We are, as ever, supportive of last week's news (link below) that the government is set to make new funding and financial flexibilities for providers of new social and affordable #housing.
But... we need to significantly raise our level of commitment on quality, beyond just well insulated and damp-free homes.
That is why we are continuing our campaign with the Architects’ Journal on Good Homes For All 2.0 - and the critical role that #architects play in delivering more and better homes.
Call for case studies! This edition explores density and the critical role architects play in shaping our housing future. If you’ve delivered a housing project in the past decade which demonstrates the crucial point that better design enables higher density, we’d love you to submit it to be considered for publication. Housing Secretary Steve Reed said:
“Every new social home means one less family stuck on a housing waiting list. Building more social housing is crucial to fixing the housing crisis for good.
“But that’s only part of the story. We’re also driving up the quality of social housing so they’re well insulated and damp-free to keep families safe and cut their energy bills in the years ahead."
