This Tuesday was our first look at the stunning revitalised @bristol_beacon in its complete form. As well as catching up with all my commissioned artists plus the team at @dashandmiller and seeing @lindabrothwell @ranabegumstudio & @gilesround works completed and in situ for the first time, I spoke on stage in beacon hall with the wonderful Jonathan Dimbleby about the multi year journey we took to achieve the final pieces, alongside Mark Lewis (Architect) Bob Essert (Acoustician), @cathymagerprojects (Heritage & Engagement Curator) & Louise Mitchell (CEO) Was lovely to see everyone across the evening (social media accounts here) and to those who couldn’t attend on Tuesday get yourself to the Beacon on December 2nd for an all day programme of free music and other events! Really excited finally to announce that I’ve been working with artists Rana Begum, Linda Brothwell, Giles Round and Libita Sibungu on a series of commissions as part of the Bristol Beacon refurbishment project. The artworks are a response to this iconic building, its history, architecture and role as a venue for music-making. They include the textiles and fabrics within the new performance spaces, an architectural installation within the historic Lantern space, a contemporary intervention on the faƧade of the Lantern building, and a work that draws on Bristol Beacon’s relationship with the water that surrounds and flows through the city. I’ll be posting more about the individual commissions over the coming days, or do go to my website. @ranabegumstudio @lindabrothwell @gilesround #libitasibungu @bristolbeacon #artandarchitecture #artinstations #publicart #publicartworks #contemporaryart #artinpublicplaces #artoftheday #architecturedesign #designinspiration

Obsessed with the detailed textures and layers in @hurvinanderson beautiful painting show @tate . One of the text panels reads ā€œCapturing the emotional quality of a place or moment is central to Anderson’s work. Rather than telling a story, his compositions are often painted with a certain mood in mind, such as longing, alienation or community.ā€ And it’s true - his work has a gut-wrenching quality. Really exceptional show. #goandsee

Big news from Field Art ProjectsšŸ’« I’m thrilled to be working as Art Consultant for Haigh Hall — an extraordinary historic house and landscape in Wigan that’s being transformed into a major cultural destination. Over the next few months, I’ll be delivering a short-term art consultancy to develop an internal art commissioning plan that explores how contemporary artists can connect with the Hall’s architecture, landscape, and powerful local stories — from industry and empire to environmental renewal and community pride. This is exactly the kind of place-based, people-centred cultural work I care about: creating opportunities for artists and communities to shape how heritage sites are experienced, understood and re-imagined. A huge, complex, meaningful project. And a real honour to help set the artistic direction with such a great team! To follow the projects progress go to @haigh.hall šŸ‘€šŸ’Ø
