The medium is… community. I got the opportunity to co-host a beginner salsa class with @letsplaynyc in connection with @nievesdancestudio !!
It was an immediate hell yes when the founder of Let’s Play reached out to collaborate. I’ve admired what the organization stands for: adult play. Let’s Play encourages us to move our bodies, to connect with others outside of the usual bars and coffee chats and to channel the fun parts of our childhood, ultimately remembering what it’s all for.
And what better way to celebrate the last day of Black History month than to honor a dance that black people made? I was grateful to get the chance to teach a mini history lesson on salsa’s afro roots before we got to grooving
The @letsplaynyc community is special because it’s created by and for doers—hobbyists who are not afraid to pick up and put down, to try and fail, and to try again. They experiment with movement, constantly exploring the limits of their comfort zones, and show up with the best energy time and time again.
For our recent playdate, we spotlighted @delilo_makes . During our Salsa Social @nievesdancestudio , Veronica shared her love for Salsa and Latin dance, along with her knowledge of the historical context, leaving us all feeling inspired and ready to move.
