From drawing the story… to coding it 😎
Drawing week 1 was all about sketching, shading, and knowing the light direction in the scene. Moving to coding meant mixing 2D objects with 3D and placing the directional light to cause the shadows in WEB GL.

“Born in Biblian”
[Acrylic markers, acrylic paint & hand-embroideried on paper]
For a very special grandma from Ecuador ❤️💙💛
Bonus points: how many stitches make up this piece?
The first reading for the anthology “Creative Stillness,” is officially behind us! I got to read an excerpt from my essay called “Recycling Love.” My favorite part was sharing this sacred space with the other writers and witnessing the publisher’s giddiness.

“Creative Stillness” is an anthology made up of 26 writers, coming out this Spring. The poems and essays are love letters to writing and reflection. It’s a reminder that creativity can also be born from peace.
The medium is… community. I got the opportunity to co-host a beginner salsa class with @letsplaynyc in connection with @nievesdancestudio !!
It was an immediate hell yes when the founder of Let’s Play reached out to collaborate. I’ve admired what the organization stands for: adult play. Let’s Play encourages us to move our bodies, to connect with others outside of the usual bars and coffee chats and to channel the fun parts of our childhood, ultimately remembering what it’s all for.
And what better way to celebrate the last day of Black History month than to honor a dance that black people made? I was grateful to get the chance to teach a mini history lesson on salsa’s afro roots before we got to grooving
I’ve avoided drawing for as long as I could. 😅 But so much of what I like to make relies on being able to sketch what I’m imagining.
I started my first-ever drawing class this week, part of a five-week semester. We talked about sketching and shading.
I’m already finding similarities between drawing and other mediums. Let’s see how this goes…

The @letsplaynyc community is special because it’s created by and for doers—hobbyists who are not afraid to pick up and put down, to try and fail, and to try again. They experiment with movement, constantly exploring the limits of their comfort zones, and show up with the best energy time and time again.
For our recent playdate, we spotlighted @delilo_makes . During our Salsa Social @nievesdancestudio , Veronica shared her love for Salsa and Latin dance, along with her knowledge of the historical context, leaving us all feeling inspired and ready to move.
Check out this clip of her shedding light on the roots of Jazz and how it intersects with the movement we experience today. #community #letsplaynyc #justabunchofbigkids #forbeginners
