We need your help. Let’s change the Act officially launches TODAY, bringing together a wide coalition of medical, policy and legal experts, and human rights, disability rights and equality campaigners. We’ve already welcomed over 30 organisations and over 200 individual members, and we hope you will join us too. Sign up via the link in our bio and share with your pals! Join us in standing up for reproductive rights in Scotland. We are calling for the Scottish Government to decriminalisation abortion and reform the Abortion Act 1967. Currently in Scotland, abortion is treated differently from other forms of crucial healthcare under the law, without medical justification. We must urgently eradicate this stigma; there is no place for it in modern Scotland. Prosecutions for abortion offences have occurred in Scotland in recent years. We need to future-proof now, against an increase in unnecessary prosecutions, as has been seen in England. Routine polling demonstrates overwhelming support in Scotland for women themselves to have control over their decision to have an abortion. 83-97% agree that ‘women should have the right to an abortion’, and yet we continue to be faced with an outdated, harmful system which is out of step with human rights standards. We need change now. Time’s up for outdated abortion law. #letschangetheact #decriminaliseabortion #reproductiverights #abortion #scotland #healthcare #womensrights

Is abortion criminalised in Scotland? We hit the streets and asked folk what they thought. ‘There’s probably some archaic law that criminalises it…’. YES. In the face of rising challenges to women’s rights in Scotland, it is essential that we safeguard women’s heath by modernising abortion law in line with modern healthcare standards. The manosphere, reform, the far right on the rise.. now’s the time to take a stand. Times UP for outdated abortion law. Want to do something? Become a member of Let’s change the Act. It takes two tics and makes ALL the difference. Link in our bio. And if you can, tag a pal below. 💜🙌🏼✊🏼 #reproductiverights #scotland #letschangetheact #abortion #decriminaliseabortion

📣 FEMINIST EVENT 📣 It's time to take a deep dive into feminist history as we meet Shere Hite— whose notorious work revolutionized how we think about s3x, marriage, and the female orga$m. Tomorrow evening (13 May), historian of global feminism Rosa Campbell will be with us to guide us through the life, work, controversies and oppression surrounding a forgotten but leading figure of second-wave feminism. Gearing up for the event, we headed for the shelves to gather up some stand-out books tackling the relationship between sex, pleasure and power, ending up with a stack that includes recent classics on s3x work as well as gems on s3x and disability. You can find more info on the books and buy your tickets for tomorrow's event on our website, link in bio! The event will be followed by a social in collaboration with @letschangetheact - come join us 🔥

Abortion remains a criminal offence in Scotland. But #LetsChangetheAct isn’t just about Scotland. Around the world, freedoms that have taken years to secure are being reversed. Decisions are being made that normalise the policing of reproductive choices. These choices, together with the strategies, funding, and tactics that back them, are crossing the Atlantic and endangering healthcare and bodily autonomy across the UK. The good news? In less than forty seconds, you can play a part in protecting reproductive rights in Scotland 💜 Sign up to the #LetsChangetheAct campaign to demand the full decriminalisation of abortion in Scotland and the replacement of the 1967 Abortion Act. Simply follow the link in our bio, select ‘Get Involved’, and complete the free ‘Become a Member’ form, which takes less than a minute to complete. Let’s Change the Act is Scotland’s national campaign to decriminalise abortion and replace the Abortion Act 1967, supported by @amnestyscotland , @nusscotland , @oxfamscotland , @lgbtiscotland , @passthemicscot , @rapecrisisscot , @scottish_trans , @youngwomenscot , @backoffscotland , and many more.

“I was 21, staring at a positive test, knowing that even if I moved mountains, there was no way I could make it work. Having an abortion saved my life.” The big crowds, the marches, the posters - it’s easy to forget that big movements like this are made up of real people who know just how important abortion access is. If, like us, you believe that abortion is a vital form of healthcare, and not a punishable crime, join the hundreds of people who have signed up to the #LetsChangetheAct campaign - which is demanding the full decriminalisation of abortion in Scotland, and the replacement of the 1967 Abortion Act - a restrictive set of ‘requirements’ used in recent years to charge and prosecute people seeking abortion. Simply follow the link in our bio, select ‘Get Involved’, and complete the ‘Become a Member’ form, which is free and takes less than a minute to complete. Abortion is normal. Abortion is healthcare. Abortion is freedom. Despite organisations like @WHO showing that decriminalising abortion improves women’s health outcomes, laws and policies around the world still treat this normal and safe procedure differently, including in Scotland. If, like us, you believe that abortion is healthcare, and not a punishable crime, join the hundreds of people who have signed up to the #LetsChangetheAct campaign. In less than forty seconds, you’ll help us to demand: 1. The full decriminalisation of abortion in Scotland. 2. The replacement of the 1967 Abortion Act - a restrictive set of ‘requirements’ used in recent years to charge and prosecute people seeking abortion. Abortion is still criminalised in Scotland. Wait, what? 👀 If you were unsure whether abortion is criminalised in Scotland, we don’t blame you. Most of us likely assume that Scotland meets international health and human rights standards on abortion, or is keeping pace with England and Wales’ moves towards decriminalisation. But in Scotland, unless an abortion is permitted within a narrow set of circumstances, it is a crime. The good news? In less than forty seconds, you can play a part in changing this 💜 Sign up to the #LetsChangetheAct campaign to demand the full decriminalisation of abortion in Scotland and the replacement of the 1967 Abortion Act. 📢 Are you ready to help protect #ReproductiveRights in Scotland? In March, England and Wales decriminalised abortion, meaning Scotland risks falling behind the rest of the UK in protecting women's reproductive rights. Support for abortion rights and decriminalisation consistently attracts high levels of support across the general public in Scotland. 📢 Cross party support for decriminalising abortion in Scotland! Ahead of the upcoming Scottish Election on 6th May, here's what party representatives had to say at the Hustings for Women's Equality on Monday night. They were asked: 'How will your party take forward recommendations by the Independent Expert Group on Abortion Law Reform to decriminalise abortion and modernise the law?' 93% of Scots polled support a woman’s right to abortion, yet abortion is treated differently under the law without medical justification. Rather than a legal framework that supports the highest standards of healthcare, we have a patchwork of outdated laws that are no longer fit for purpose. We urgently need modernised abortion law that works for women’s human rights and prevents further unnecessary prosecutions. Sign up to support the campaign for free now via the link in our bio and join us in saying time's up for outdated abortion law. @amnestyscotland @humanistsociety @lawmanity @lgbtiscotland @scottishtuc @gillian_mac1 @christine.jardine.westedin @mairimcallansnp @carolmochanmsp #LetsChangeTheAct #ReproductiveRights #AbortionRights #TimesUpForOutdatedAbortionLaw #ScottishPolitics
