growing cactus outdoors on the east coast is a different flavor than most of our western cohort is used to. but! it can be done and they can thrive.
slide 1 has some of the two varieties found in Floyd Bennett Field: opuntia humifiusa & cespitosa. this bowl is grown totally exposed on a roof in brooklyn.
the following slides show what was once a tiny, scraggly opuntia fragilis years ago, but is now a mound of brittle prickly pear. this plant is from the western part of the northern hemisphere, but is right at home plated outdoors in western MA.
let the all encompassing expansiveness of existence bathe over you!

Atacama Tee
The Atacama desert is buoyed by the Humboldt Current, which feeds the Camanchaca—without it the world’s most arid desert would be devoid of live. In 2018 a group of us visited this wildly weird place and grew further transfixed by its psychedelic ecology.
