I am pleased to share that my pieces, “Solar Return” and “Call and Response” will be part of the group exhibit titled A-139547204. Taking its title from an “alien registration number” —the identification number assigned to non-citizens by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security—the exhibition brings together ten artists whose works explore alienation through forms and atmospheres informed by the visual language of science-fiction aliens. Curated by Maty Sall @matyvs of Rooster/Lion @rooster_lion , the exhibit will be opening on May 12th, 6 to 8pm at 195 Bowery, #2, NY,NY.

Moderated by Surviving the Long Wars co-editors Aaron Hughes and Amber Zora. Surviving the Long Wars: Creative Rebellion at the Ends of Empire (Bridge Books, 2024) offers a groundbreaking exploration into the complex histories of US warfare and militarism, illuminating the pivotal role of art in cultivating justice, healing, and abolition. Inspired by Indigenous responses to the “American Indian Wars” and artists from the Greater Middle East and South Asia challenging the “Global War on Terror,” this volume examines the intersections between these legacies of creative rebellion and the experiences of contemporary Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) veterans. Informed by the emerging Veteran Art Movement and its ties to global struggles for demilitarization and abolition, the book advocates for solidarity and imaginative resistance against war and empire.

From LA to Atlanta…opening this Friday!

Grateful to be in “Unbound: Art, Blackness and the Universe”. These are the 2nd and 3rd pieces that will be in the exhibit. They are from the project “When We Move”, where @nyamebrown and I created work inspired by Amiri Baraka’s essay Technology&Ethos, where he speculated what technology would look like if it was Afrocentric in origin. This the first of three images that will be in the group show Unbound. The exhibit opens October 1st @moadsf and is curated by @keyjolee I am so honored to be included in this exhibition with so many great artists as we represent the variety of ways to explore Blackness. This piece titled Light Years: A Cenotaph for Better Places, is part of an ongoing series where I am creating theoretical monuments for marginalized events and people of the Black Diaspora.

A layered work of dry pigment and silkscreen on paper, this piece is a meditation on trauma, resilience, and the deeply personal story of survival in the face of systemic injustice. Ewing’s work does more than reflect, it reclaims. A San Francisco native now based in New York, his practice interrogates the intersection of lived experience and national myth. He has shown at institutions like the de Young Museum and the Museum of the African Diaspora. Today, his work is part of NYC Mosaic: Corner x Corner, our current exhibition featuring Rodney Ewing, Ronen Gamil, Amir Bey, and Guadalupe Cariño R., four artists who confront history and identity with singular clarity.
