Kim and Connor had a great time helping #AmpsDundee untangle their ideas - both for budding individual projects and potential future Amps collaborations using the @creative_dundee Community Ideas Fund. It was lovely to occupy space in #hapworks on a (Spring?) evening, featuring cheerful creative conversations and magnificent Sharpie self-portraits!
Taking a design-led approach, Amps considered their skills, values and interests to understand context, before defining creative challenges and opportunities, generating ideas, framing them, and making plans for implementation. We look forward to seeing some of the ideas in pitches at the next Amps Forum!
Service Design Academy joined Amps in February 2024 to help support creativity and innovation in Dundee. Our educator Connor Finlayson has been a part of the Amps network since 2017 and was the recipient of 2018’s Community Ideas Fund alongside collaborator Ryan McLeod.
Talking to the people in business to understand their needs is a key priority. Without this we can’t design and deliver the courses that employers want from entry level onwards in Service Design for sustainable career paths.
@maralynboyle ’s expertise and knowledge has ensured the businesses we work, and partner with, get fit for purpose education and training that is right for them to build capacity and meet the skills gap.

The skills gap is growing just as the recognition that human centred design needs to happen for everything from products and services to business processes and systems.
A fascinating chat with Stewart Pleace, Head of Innovation Management from Hymans Robertson this morning. We agreed there's no silver bullet, but a focus on skills and experience from entry level is important, with partnerships between educators and employers. Apprenticeships, traineeships and junior roles with sustainable career progression are all needed.
The Professional Development Award in Service Design at Service Design Academy was launched 5 years ago to build capacity, and we're proud the course is growing and going from strength to strength.
5 years ago helping leaders understand the value of service design was sometimes a struggle.
This is not a problem now, meeting demand for designers is.

Physical user research walls - what a beautiful thing 😍
👀 Just one of a series of mixed workshops, meeting face to face @edintrain and online using @mirohq so we have digital access to our user research walls too - allowing us to involve everyone, not just those in the room today.
Katie and Robbie facilitated tenant listening sessions and empathy journeys to start to understand experiences of the use of energy in their homes 🏡
We will have more information to follow soon on this exciting project we are collaborating with @changeworks , 3 housing associations and tenants to co-create energy confident households 💡. 🔥.🌳
