Photography Workshop for Queer Refugees in Dresden Would you like to learn photography and create your own images? From March 31 to May 31, I’m offering a free photography workshop in Dresden for queer refugees. Together we’ll explore camera, light, image-making, and different ways of telling stories through photography. No prior experience is needed, and cameras will be provided. The workshop is meant as a space for learning, exchange, and creative expression. You can join whether you are completely new to photography or already curious to develop your own visual ideas further. Kurzer Einblick meiner Erfahrungen in Zwickau: Während der Demonstration fand ich mich öfters zwischen den zwei Fronten aus Nazis und Antifaschist*innen, getrennt nur durch eine Polizeilinie. Die unmittelbare Konfrontation und in das Visier von so viel Hass zu geraten, lösten im ersten Moment starke Angst und Wut aus. Die Unmittelbarkeit und der Kontrast zwischen Liebe und Hass, hätten nicht größer sein können. Ich stelle fest, dass diese Form der Fotografie mir hilft, das Gefühl des Kontrollverlusts über die politischen Umstände etwas zu mildern. Trotz des Hasses um mich herum fühle ich mich gestärkt, gemeinsam mit der Community vor Ort zu stehen und zu kämpfen. („Kleine“ Sidnote: der Reisebus, mit dem wir von Berlin nach Zwickau gefahren sind bestand größtenteils aus der FLINTA+ Community.) Ich ziehe den Hut vor all den Organisationen, Vereinen und Menschen die sich vor Ort engagieren. Der Tag hat mir erneut gezeigt, wie wichtig ihre Arbeit ist und dass auch andere Formen der Unterstützung, wie Spenden, in Zeiten wo immer mehr Gelder gekürzt werden, so wichtig sind. Trotz der intensiven Erfahrungen und der langen An- und Abreise, bin ich mit mehr Energie zurück gekommen, als ich gestartet bin. Und markiert für mich den Beginn einer neuen fotografischen Entwicklung.

Working with Mario (@handmade.dj ) on his new press photos was a pleasure. I aimed to embrace a new aesthetic, enabling me to delve into a new aspect of my photographic style. While the fear of failure and perfectionism often holds me back, this time, I prioritized high contrast, emphasizing the interplay between highlights and shadows, as well as colors and shadow tones.
