Reel by @sharifahnadira
Sharing the final piece of work I created during my time at @lcclondon whilst studying Illustration and Visual Media.
This piece incorporates Tatreez, the traditional craft of Palestinian hand embroidery, with an archival family photograph.
Please donate to and follow Palestinians on the ground in Gaza, whose lives are unforgivably being destroyed en masse daily. @gazasunbirds
Each stitch was embroidered by hand, with the help of a few loved ones.
Thank you to @tirazain.initiative , a beautiful free archive of Tatreez motifs used to create this work, technicians @lcc_print_workshop and tutors @ivmlcc .
Screenprint and Tatreez on Wood, 2024.

The suBLACK book is meant to accompany the film in a gallery setting where a viewer may want more information from the artists featured in the film. The book contains ten chapters of interview transcripts and five extra chapters of material I wrote that supplement the film’s overall theme.
Working on the book has been the easiest part of this entire creation process. I was able to fully voice my thoughts into one object that also contained the voice of the artists and their work.
The book can give viewers some insight into why this project is important and needed. It is not meant to be a history lesson, but simply a guide for the viewing of the film.
Here are some images from the process of making the prototype :)

“In each city I walked in, greenery seemed but crafted illusions, meticulously groomed to fit concrete confines. I have always felt that this artificial cultivation has a woven connection with the formation of my body – the colour of it, the texture of it, and the shape of it.
Everything I see, including myself, is somehow fabricated, endlessly replicated without pause. Yet, within the entwined stories and souls, there is so much more— they tremble the mountains, ease the thunders, climb all the way up to the hills and shout to the distant skies, and melt into the soil and hear the echoing through lands.
Here resides a pulsating heart, only if you could hear me.”

Final year Illustration & Visual Media @ivmlcc student @_yuyinglu has worked on a beautiful and delicate book this term across three of the workshops in our department @letterpress.workshop@book.arts.workshop@lcc_print_workshop
In Yuying's words:
'Stitches’
This is a chap book about Chinatown, an ethnic enclave born from the crucible of racial exclusion and the unyielding unity that thrives in the face of adversity –a testament to the enduring spirit etched in every fiber of its being.
It is a sanctuary of survival built bit by bit by the diaspora and carries the weight of a painful history often overlooked.
And here I stitch the wounds.
Thanks @will.mower for the @accessthroughtools workshop at @lcclondon
‘Shifting Structures’ was an experimental workshop using a modular shape system designed by Will and built here at LCC. Printed by the students under Will’s and @and_long supervision.
Students constructed their design digitally using an online builder designed by Will, these were then used to arrange the physical blocks on the press.
Thanks again to Will and all the students who attended the workshop
