There’s an exhibition coming up soon at
@waspsstudios of new work that has grown out of the last 2 years of sailing expeditions with
@sailbritain
Patriothall, Edinburgh EH3 5Ay
PV Fri 1 May, 5–x7pm
Open: Sat 2 & Sun 3 May, 10am–6pm
it’s a crew effort with lots of previous life of islands pals sharing things too -
@_emilyvevans_ is showing outcomes from her research into how different people used her portable collage kit (she lent it to me for a stint and I made a series of receipt printer comics whilst on the isle of Eigg - one of those will be in the show). There’ll also be a mock-up of the album Mike
@firestationsband and I made, which began life on the boat (it sold out but there are some CD copies via
@lostmaprecords floating around). We also commissioned our crewmate Lauren
@lovelylawn , and Simon
@simon.hamlyn to make us a music video for one of the singles, which will be part of the exhibition - its beautiful, made using a portable scanner and screen printed frames. 💙 I’m also really excited to catch up with
@ali_gemma and
@sarahjoelywalkerart have made in response to our storm-bound week last year, even though we couldn’t go anywhere, the light and water were incredible and I liked the chat. It was pretty wild to be in the epicentre of an almost cyclone!
Following Seas brings together around 20 interdisciplinary artists who’ve been at sea in the Hebrides where Na Fir Ghorma (The Blue Men of the Minch) rub shoulders with the Blue Economy. The show explores ocean lore through cultural, historical and environmental lenses, with photography, screen printing, film, music, costume and more, alongside a symposium of spoken and sung word in Gaelic and English.
Big thanks to the crew for organising—especially Oliver, Phoebe
@phoeberoze and Seb.
