LASER São Paulo - Chimeric Bodies and Machine Hauntologies
December 8th 2025 - Monday afternoon/evening
Local: Lupe Cotrim Auditorium, School of Communication and Arts main building - Professor Lúcio Martin Rodrigues Avenue, 443, University Town, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Theme: Chimeric Bodies and Machine Hauntologies
Chairs: Clarissa Ribeiro and Tania Fraga
This edition of LASER Talks São Paulo gathers two remarkable voices whose practices inhabit the porous borderlands between embodiment, technology, affect, and the spectral dynamics of contemporary media ecologies: Dr. Dalila Honorato (Ionian University, Greece) and Carolina Sudati a.k.a. Translúcida Bruta (Brazil). This encounter explores a sensorial, semiotic, and ontological infrastructure for navigating emergent forms of hybrid existence—where machinic hauntologies, algorithmic phantasmagoria, and the aesthetics of the cybernetic gothic converge with visceral bodies, ritual gestures, and the politics of becoming-other.
Dalila Honorato brings her long-standing research on embodiment, monstrosity, the uncanny, and the liminal tensions between phobia and paraphilia—work that has shaped international discourses through projects such as Taboo–Transgression–Transcendence in Art & Science and FEMeeting. Her perspective unveils how contemporary chimeric and hybrid forms—both biological and computational—reconfigure the thresholds of identity, intimacy, and epistemic risk in a world saturated with machinic intelligence.
Carolina Sudati (Translúcida Bruta) expands this terrain through her corporeal investigations at the interface of wearable devices, ritualistic movement, and the transmutation of psycho-emotional constraints into kinetic expansion. Her performative research unfolds across vegetal hacking, mineral ecologies, neo-extractivist residues, and trance-based practices that illuminate the raw material hauntings of the post-industrial body.

LASER Talks São Paulo | Theme: Nosy Artificial
Date: Monday, December 1st, 2025
Location: Room C6 – Computer Graphics Classroom
Department of Fine Arts, Building 5
School of Communications and Arts (ECA), University of São Paulo, Brazil
Chaired by:
Prof. Dr. Clarissa Ribeiro
Department of Fine Arts, School of Communications and Arts, University of São Paulo
This edition of LASER Talks São Paulo, titled “Nosy Artificial”, gathers international voices from media theory, digital culture, and experimental art to explore the affective, political, and perceptual tensions at the interface between humans and machines.
Rooted in the conceptual terrain of The Wrong Biennale's noisyPOPcorner – Frictious Self Embassy, the talk welcomes noise not as error but as excess - a zone of encounter where human subjectivity diffracts through code, gesture, and synthetic systems.
From AI-driven generation to wearable devices, from performance studies to generative design, the dialogue centers on frictions—those dissonances where art, motion, and intelligence co-evolve.
Invited Speakers: • Leonardo Foletto leofoletto
Researcher and professor of digital culture and artificial intelligence at the Department of Communications and Arts (CCA), ECA/USP, Brazil

LASER Talks São Paulo – August 7, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (BRT)
Format: Online
Theme: UNBOUND: Queering Logic / Beyond Busyness
⸻
“Unbound” encapsulates a refusal to conform—an invitation to move beyond binary thinking in gender, identity, and societal norms, and to release ourselves from the imperatives of productivity and rigid structures. This edition of LASER Talks São Paulo invites us to imagine new ways of living, working, and creating with authenticity, fluidity, and care.
⸻
Featured Speakers:
Rafael Bresciani (Italy / Brazil)
Visiting researcher and PhD candidate in Visual Art and Technological Humanism at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brescia Santa Giulia. His practice explores the boundaries of media, communication, technology, and sound to challenge dominant structures of time, labor, language, and control. In this talk, he proposes laziness as a radical, liberatory strategy—an ode to free time, free thinking, and resistance to the infrastructures that constrain our lives and dreams.
Leona Machado (São Paulo, Brazil)
Artist-researcher and doctoral candidate in the Visual Arts Graduate Program (PPGAV) at ECA-USP, Leona’s work explores gender, subjectivity, and machine logic through artistic and computational experiments. With a background in Art (UFF), their practice interrogates natural language processing and algorithmic thinking from a non-binary, poetic, and critical perspective—queering the very structures of logic that shape our lived realities.
⸻
This session is moderated by Clarissa Ribeiro, professor at CAP/ECA/USP and LASER São Paulo chair.
Join us in this provocative conversation at the intersection of art, philosophy, computation, and resistance.
Diana Domingues (1947-2025)
With deep sorrow, we honor the passing of Diana Domingues—pioneering artist, scientist, and visionary thinker in the field of Art and Technology. Diana’s legacy transcends disciplines: she opened vital spaces for women in science-art and inspired generations through her groundbreaking research and generosity of spirit. Her work illuminated the entangled energies of bodies, machines, ecologies, and dreams. As a fierce thinker and loving mentor, she gifted us worlds. May her energy remain—and in fragmenting, grow even stronger. Her presence continues as vibration, as code, as care. @diana.domingues.7127
LASER talks at the University of Sao Paulo (USP)
chaired by: Dr. Clarissa Ribeiro
Theme: Affective Data-Sensory
June 6, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM CAP ECA USP room C6
Affective Data-Sensory gestures toward a rich terrain where information is no longer treated as inert, neutral, or abstract—but rather as felt, embodied, and entangled with perception, emotion, and relationality. In the practices of artists like Lisa Schonberg and Darya Warner, data ceases to be merely informational and becomes experiential.
Lisa Schonberg and Darya Warner, our invited speakers, share a powerful intersectional practice that operates within the entangled ecologies of art, science, and activism. Their commonalities are not only methodological but philosophical, revealing a shared ethos rooted in care, multispecies co-agency, and the performativity of environmental consciousness.

LEONARDO/ISAST LASER Talks: Interdisciplinary Creativity for Innovation
Leonardo/ISAST LASER Talks is an international program that creates a "transdisciplinary space" by bringing together artists, scientists, humanists, and technologists for informal presentations, performances, and conversations with the wider public. The purpose of the LASERs is to encourage contribution to the cultural environment of a region by fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and community building in over 57 cities across five continents. LASER's local & global nodes build a creative infrastructure to address the world's most challenging problems and help us engineer a better future.
Over the past seven decades, the discourse on the dialogues and intersections between the arts and sciences has undergone a profound transformation since the inception of the “two cultures” debate. Today, numerous publications, institutions, organisations, academic associations, and funding programmes, such as S+T+ARTS in the European context, testify to the burgeoning emphasis on transdisciplinarity.
The programme includes:
