The moment I heard about white @levis x @jumpman23 IV’s, I knew I wanted to dye a pair with the intention of paying homage to the subculture of vintage tie dye tees that I’ve grown to love and collect. ⚡️ I also wanted to develop a technique that would be representative of the vintage tees - more than a squirt job or a single color dip.
Acquiring the shoes was one hurdle. The second hurdle was executing a fail-proof plan. While I reached out to every plug imaginable, I simultaneously had conversations with friends and consulted fellow designers like @meganhuntz about their experiences working with dyes, especially on objects that aren’t tees. Then I experimented across multiple mediums and turned my hands blue until I came up with a technique that felt authentic.
My dream finally came true this month, and here are my results. These aren’t the first and I’m sure they won’t be the last customized Levi’s 4’s that you see, but when it’s all said and done, I hope this effort that I created in my home in Atlanta will be part of the conversation.
