| The Vietnamese Gardens 2
This summer I took a series of photos of my mom, my grandma, and their friends in their gardens. They havenāt been able to visit their homeland for the past year due to the pandemic. Only their gardens and the foods they grow can evoke memories back to their homeland. Gardening or sometimes even full-out farming in their yards not only keeps them busy every summer, but also brings produce that arenāt popular in the US to the South. From green jelly vines, musk melons, dragonfruits, bitter melons, pennyworts, and all the asian herbs/vegetables grown, they create delicious, homemade Vietnamese foods.

Last week, I visited another grandmaās house down the street and shot some new garden photos for this series. Her garden is double the size and way more organized than ours. I was able to catch her in the evening watering her vegetables. With this heat, she waters in the morning and in the evening. āThe water bill can get up to $100, but this will feed my 5 kidsā families and I can share them with friends. Itās worth it.ā she said. These grandmas barely go to the grocery market over the summer. They have everything in their garden.
