My darling Beirut, I wanted to draw what you are to me: A city in perpetual motion—joyful, playful, and endlessly surprising.
This Arabic lettering is my contribution to the group “exhibit-in-a-booklet” entitled: And you remained distant when we arrived curated by Amin Alsaden, and held at Rose and Shaheen Saleeby Museum in Beirut. I’ve also added a selection of my sketches and visual thoughts on page 2.
The exhibition will be on until July 15, 2025, so if you’re in Beirut, do go as it is in dialogue with a parallel showcase on modernist Art in Lebanon, including many forerunners of the local Hurufiyya movement.
Copies of the booklets are being sold at the gallery and include the Beiruts of: Antoine Abi Aad, Imad Gebrael, Karim Farah, Khajag Apelian, Kristyan Sarkis, Lara Assouad, Nada Abdallah, Naji El Mir, Pascal Zoghbi, Sally Mallat, Wael Morcos, and Yara Khoury Nammour.
Thank you Amin (
@amin.alsaden , also for the booklet interior photo) and AUB Art Galleries (
@aubartgalleries ) for this lovely project! (The booklet cover image is taken from the AUB Galleries website.)
