You can find us on Saturdays at @bathfarmersmarketgreenpark from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.
To be honest, it feels a little daunting stepping into something new… but also exciting to finally share what I’ve been working on in real time.
I don’t expect perfection (and I’m sure there will be a bit of a learning curve), but I do hope for good conversations, curious faces, and a few smiles along the way.
So if you’re passing through, come and say hi. I’ll be there, finding my feet, and hopefully creating a small corner worth stopping at.
I’m still dreaming of this burnt basque cheesecake from @lar_bakery ☁️🤤 (gifted)
I got to try this cheesecake (and a slice of the Bath Soft Cheese cheesecake) and it’s genuinely one of the best things I’ve eaten this year!
🐝 Burnt Basque Cheesecake 10/10 – insanely creamy in the middle, rich, smooth and literally melts in your mouth with every bite
🐝 Bath Soft Cheese cheesecake 7/10 – VERY cheesy, but in a good way!! super creamy and such an innovative local twist
I’ve never had a burnt basque cheesecake before and I was not prepared for that texture… soft, almost gooey in the centre with that caramelised top – I get the hype now! Of course I had to do a spoon from the side to show the soft centre 🥄
What I love even more is that Lar Bakery is a small, woman-owned business, run by Noemí, who is honestly so lovely and incredibly talented. Everything is made in small batches with so much care and you can really taste the quality in every bite!
You can collect from her near Bath/Bristol with no minimum order, get local delivery on Sundays, or find her at Bath Farmers’ Market 🫶
Next on my list: trying her bakes at @riceandshinekitchen with the filipino ube twist 👀 #bristolfood #bathfood #bathfoodie #cheesecake #basquecheesecake

⭐️Showstopper⭐️
This had to be one of the best sweet treats ever invented. I had the opportunity to collect a Basque cheesecake to try out from @lar_bakery and I jumped at the chance.
This cheesecake was incredible, so rich and creamy and addictive. I highly highly recommend that you go and try her freshly baked treats.
It’s so good, I want it in place of a birthday cake.
How to buy:
- Bath green market on Saturdays!
- Collection just on the outskirts of Bath
Please go and give her a visit - you will not be disappointed!!

@riceandshinebristol is bringing Filipino food to @wappingwharf and I couldn’t be happier!☺️💜🇵🇭
In some very exciting recent foodie news, Rice and Shine has launched at Wapping Wharf to overwhelming success. This family-run restaurant is already making a name for itself with Filipino-inspired cuisine, its sizzling hot plates and gorgeous Ube desserts.
Looking at the menu, for me it read more like a bingo card and I knew everything was going to be great. We opted for their Sizzling Sisig, a traditional Filipino dish of tofu sautéed with onions citrus and lots of bold seasoning, and the Bicol Express, with crispy pork belly in a spicy creamy coconut milk sauce.
Both dishes brought the appropriate level of drama, were well seasoned and delicious moreish. The rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked, perfect for mopping up all that creamy sauce.
But that wasn’t all. We were then treated to pretty much my dream dessert platter. As a huge lover of Ube, immediately on entering the restaurant my eyes had clocked their gorgeous Ube roll cake and I knew she was coming home with me. She was light, moist sponge with a generous inside creamy layer and intense but not too sweet Ube flavour. In contrast, the basque cheesecake was the dark horse of the two. Rich, oozy cheesecake made by the favulously talented @lar_bakery with a strong but not off-putting cheese flavour (I believe she uses @bathsoftcheese which is also one of our favourite day trips outside of Bristo!l) Both desserts were perfect and it’s truly dangerous knowing something exists in my neighbourhood.
This is such a special place, and I truly understand the hype. We could not have been made to feel more welcome or taken care of during our visit. Everything was had was faultless, and this was definitely not be our last time visiting.✨

I’ve got some exciting news to share 😊
From now on, you’ll be able to enjoy my cheesecakes at @riceandshinebristol in Bristol! It makes me so happy to see my cakes finding a new home and being part of such a special menu.
If you fancy trying them in a different setting (and alongside some amazing Filipino food 🇵🇭), this is your sign.
Thank you so much for supporting my small business.
Did you know our leche frita is made without any gluten containing ingredients?
While our kitchen can’t be classified as fully gluten-free (as we do handle products with gluten and there may be a risk of cross-contamination) we’re proud to offer several items made without gluten: our leche frita, Burnt Basque Cheesecake, and Tarta de Santiago.
Delicious options crafted with care, and without gluten! 🤍
The other day at the market, a woman pointed at the Basque cheesecake and asked me, “Is this the same as Tarta de la Viña?”.
I told her yes, and I’m going to explain why.
In Spain (especially in the north) cheesecake has always been made, baked and without a biscuit base. In the Basque Country, there is a bar called La Viña, where they perfected the ingredient proportions as well as the baking time and temperature to achieve a very creamy texture and a caramelised top.
So, in Spain, this cake is called “Tarta de queso de la Viña”, while in the rest of the world it became known under the more generic and descriptive name of Burnt Basque Cheesecake.
Nestled in the heart of Pontevedra, Praza da Leña (or “Firewood Square” 🪵) is a historic gem dating back to the Middle Ages, when locals sold firewood here to heat their homes.
Over the centuries, the square has preserved its charm with elegant baroque palaces, traditional stone houses with wooden balconies, and a 15th‑century granite cross (cruceiro) at its centre.
Today, it is a lively meeting point, lined with cafés and terraces.
It’s really interesting to see how certain things you’ve always known are interpreted from the perspective of someone discovering them for the first time.
I loved a comment a client made the other day about the bica. She was telling me how much she enjoyed it when she bought it, and described it as “a spongy shortbread”.
Since then, whenever people ask me about it, I always use that phrase; I think it’s exactly the perfect way for someone from the UK to understand the flavour of this sweet treat.
Our Bath Soft Cheese cheesecake may not steal the spotlight from the ever-popular Basque Burnt cheesecake, but it certainly has its own devoted fans who turn up every Saturday at @bathfarmersmarket for their weekly slice 🧀.
A customer told me the other day that our buñuelos reminded him of French chouquettes , just fried instead of baked.
And he was absolutely right! They’re practically the same thing, only fried instead of oven-baked.
We don’t usually bring leche frita to the market as it’s a rather delicate dessert, but this Saturday we’ll have a few portions to test the waters. 🤫
Come early and get yours before they’re gone!
