Honoured that our cultural, landscape and regeneratively-led vision for Te Ara Tukutuku on the Tāmaki Makaurau waterfront has won the Urban Design Category at this years World Architecture Festival (WAF).
Developed through a unique partnership between Ngā Iwi Mana Whenua, the Auckland Urban Development Office (AUDO), and our multi-disciplinary design consortium ‘Toi Waihanga’ Te Ara Tukutuku reconnects land, water and people through a landscape-first approach grounded in whakapapa and place. It demonstrates how an ecologically intelligent approach can shape a resilient and regenerative future.
Proud to see this collaborative kaupapa recognised on the global stage. Ki te hoe!

Te Ara Tuktuku was the winner in the ‘Conceptual Public Space’ category.
Te Ara Tukutuku is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most ambitious landscape regeneration and city-shaping projects of a generation. It will heal a contaminated and reclaimed headland site on the edge of Te Waitematā harbour– rebinding the relationship between whenua (land) and moana (sea). Through a collaborative co-design process that deeply engages mātauranga Māori (indigenous knowledge) and tīkanga (practices), this 5-hectare site is being transformed from its petrochemical past into a thriving, healthy coastal environment.

Karanga Plaza Jump Platform_
The LandLAB team are thrilled to win 3 x categories in the 2025 World Landscape Architecture (WLA). @worldlandscapearch
Karanga Plaza Jump Platform was the winner in the ‘Small Landscape Spaces’ category.
This project enables and celebrates urban swimming on Tāmaki’s urban waterfront and creates a space for safe swimming and an enhanced connection to the marine environment. Situated on the edge of Te Waitematā Harbour, this context inspires a site specific response to the marine life beneath the surface and a sculptural celebration of the theatre and spectacle of urban swimming.

Ko Te Pūkākī
The LandLAB team are thrilled to win 3 x categories in the 2025 World Landscape Architecture (WLA) Awards. @worldlandscapearch
Ko Te Pūkākī was the winner of the ‘Planning and Research’ category. Developed for and with Ngāti Whatua Ōrākei (NWŌ) this project is a unique NWŌ-led regeneration programme to establish a thriving, resilient environment which places their people, practices and culture at its heart. LandLAB have been supporting NWŌ in the shaping of this mahi with the tools of landscape architecture and ecology, and in particular providing support for the graphic communication of KTP. It is here that these tools and geo-spatial technologies have meshed with NWŌ mātauranga (traditional knowledge) to create a unique and place-led publication which articulates the intent, the aspiration and the reverence NWŌ have for their whenua.
