📣 Residents sound off on ICE + LAPD

“What about the collaboration? What about the information sharing?” one commenter asked.
After the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis and Keith Porter Jr. by an off‑duty ICE officer in Northridge, people at the Jan. 27 Police Commission meeting called out LAPD over alleged collaboration with ICE.
Commenters voiced concern over data sharing, crowd control at raids and protests, and LAPD’s role in federal immigration enforcement.

Meet @matthew.lalocal , our LA Documenters Editor!
LA Documenters trains and pays residents in Los Angeles County to attend local government meetings and publish notes on the important updates, debates and decisions our elected leaders are making at public meetings that too often go uncovered.
Your meeting notes will help your neighbors and our journalists stay informed even if they can’t attend.
Since launching in March, we’ve trained 125 LA residents as Documenters and published notes on 75 government and community meetings.
Do you know of an important meeting happening in your area that needs coverage? Let us know in the comments.
And does getting paid to cover local government sound good to you? Visit the link in our bio to learn more about the LA Documenters program and to sign up for our interest form. #civicengagement

After a year of virtual meetings, residents can now attend the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council meetings in person, starting this month.
The return marks a win for the council, which has been rebuilding since it was placed in non-operating status and had its funds frozen in December 2024.
Neighborhood residents and stakeholders can attend meetings to hear updates from elected officials, preview proposed developments, apply for grant funding or elevate a community issue in a public comment.
