After a year of virtual meetings, residents can now attend the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council meetings in person, starting this month.
The return marks a win for the council, which has been rebuilding since it was placed in non-operating status and had its funds frozen in December 2024.
Neighborhood residents and stakeholders can attend meetings to hear updates from elected officials, preview proposed developments, apply for grant funding or elevate a community issue in a public comment.

Public meetings impact your schools, housing, and safety, but they often go unnoticed. LA Documenters attend and record these meetings so you don’t miss what matters.
Right now, up to $5,000 in donations is being matched by NewsMatch so we can continue to train and pay local residents here in Los Angeles.

Wendy Castro, a 15-year Boyle Heights resident who has served on the council over the last seven years, will now lead the board as president for a two-year term.
She takes the lead at a time when the council is working to exit “exhaustive efforts,” a restrictive status that prevents it from funding community events or approving neighborhood improvement grants.
Castro’s priorities include releasing frozen council funds, safeguarding immigrants and rebuilding trust with residents.
