SATURDAY AT THE STUDIO! @hanna_taylor_art@mallieloringpratt and I are flinging open our doors and sharing art, vintage and antique finds, and hopefully inviting real spring weather to usher in May! We will also be hosting a clothing swap as last year’s was such a success — so please fling open YOUR closet doors and bring a bag of pieces in your wardrobe you’re ready to part with and grab some new treasures. Anything left over will be donated to @theopendoorma so it’s a win win for all. AND — there’s so much happening on the North Shore this weekend; m’ladies @forestbound@taploch are opening the year-round Forestbound shop in Amesbury and @withflourinherhair is having a spring market in Lynn. ABUNDANCE! See you Saturday at 11!!
Got really April fooled by the weather this morning but nonetheless spring will be here sometime (maybe?) soon and our favorite Erin @minor.works has sent some transitional pieces to the shop for this month of showers and false spring hope and daffodils. Easy skirts, crisp button downs, soft long sleeves — and I’ll fight you for the kimono!!
So so much happening at the studio in the next month! We’re waking up from a little winter hibernation and hope to see you between egg painting workshop on 4/1 with artist @margaretlsweet craft night on 4/7 with textile kween @hedhouseman our monthly lunch on Fri 4/10 (@mallieloringpratt will be hopefully transmitting some of her @chalkhillartistresidency inspiration) a book talk and cut flower planning with @foxglovefarmhouse on 4/14 and finally an open studio, sale, and clothing swap on Saturday, May 2nd. The store is open every Friday and Saturday, so hope to see you somewhere or anywhere in this mix of happenings!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — the best part of having this shop is getting to meet so many wonderful people! Especially those who have all kinds of talents they’re excited about sharing with our little town. I’m so excited to welcome Elizabeth of @foxglovefarmhouse to the studio on Tuesday, April 14th at 6:30pm, for her to help us envision our cut flower gardens for this season and beyond. Whether you have a big, little, or hypothetical fantasy outdoor space, you’ll leave with a plan for easy to grow cut flowers and a copy of her wonderful new book, The Beginner’s Cut Flower Garden. We’re combining many of our studio passions — flowers, art, community, chatting 🤪 — into one night, and we hope you’ll join us!
Quilt coats are back at @laborinvain ! Would you believe half these angels never used a sewing machine before they made these coats? I would, because you are all so powerful and capable!
Come spend the day with us on 3/28 sewing your very own quilt coat. This full day session (complete with a lunch break) teaches you the basics of sewing machine use, garment making including using a pattern and more. You’ll make friends and walk away with a gorgeous quilt coat you made yourself! Bring your quilt or use some of my quilted options. And of course, DM me with any questions. Can’t wait to see you there!

Color in March…not an oxymoron?! We have special new @artistsinorbit@utilitycanvas bags in the shop; they can be filled up, hosed down, a bright spot in spring, summer, fall, or winter. Please swipe to see how our very own studio Mary Poppins @mallieloringpratt uses her bag for the cold weather months ✨
We’re back, baby! Join me at @laborinvain this Wednesday 3/11 to hang out, eat snacks, gab, and do crafts. Pick my brain about projects or just enjoy our extended sunlight. :)
A little more:
Join us for a relaxed monthly craft night to chat and create. From curious beginners to dedicated crafters, come hang out! Some ideas: mend a favorite sweater, work on your newest knitting, collage a postcard, or experiment with something entirely new while we cheer you on. Bring a project you’d like to work on, along with the supplies you’ll need for the evening. (Please note that materials should come with you—and head home with you—at the end of the night.)
If you’re feeling adventurous, we’ll have some textile tools try out, including spinning, weaving, and embroidery equipment (and almost certainly some surprises, as well as snacks).
No experience required—just bring your curiosity and something to work on.
And for those who don’t know me, hi! Here’s a bit about me:
Haley Houseman is a writer and textile artist. Her work explores craft, material culture, and environmental history. She teaches sewing to beginners and returning makers, as well as running a pop-up mending service. Her classes aim to demystify the crafts we yearn to learn, focusing on skill-building and helping students feel at home with their tools and empowered to bring their ideas to life.
With a deep family history of sewing, tailoring, and craft education, she brings generations of knowledge to the classroom—along with a love of making that spans projects from her own wedding dress to reupholstered armchairs.
All children are our children and all neighbors are our neighbors. Please join us at our studio on Wednesday, February 11th, for a potluck dinner to support our neighbors in Minnesota, @womensfndnmn and come together in community. We’re asking for a $25 donation and to bring a dish; we’ll provide drinks and Valentines making supplies. Tomorrow, Friday January 30th, we will be closed as part of a nationwide shutdown; we are lucky enough to be able to take a day off in support of all of those who cannot and those who are most vulnerable. If you’re looking for other ways to help, @projectreliefme Latino Voices MN @maineneeds and @luce_hotline are doing incredible work for immigrants in need, and, as always, @nourishingthenorthshore@theopendoorma@threesistersgardenproject@beverly.bootstraps are supporting those in our own community who need it the most. Thank you @hanna_taylor_art for this gorgeous poster; looking forward to coming together with you all! Link in bio and stories to purchase a ticket.

My 2025 in books; I thought I read less this year but turns out I read the exact same number of books as last year. And…could it be that the best book I read all year, Playworld, was written by…gasp!…a man?! I don’t make resolutions, but I’ll steal from the best movie I saw all year (Hamnet) and remind myself to keep my heart open. And to always turn toward love, joy, and wonder. Happy 2026 ✨
It always goes by so fast! Hope you had the merriest of Christmases and holiday seasons and, if not, you were at least really nice to yourself. THANK YOU for keeping me so busy and for all the love you bring to the shop and our studio and to my general orbit; I am so lucky. All holiday is 40% off in the online shop and everything else is 20% off with code NEWYEAR. We’re closed until Thursday, January 22nd; see you after our winter hibernation ❤️❤️❤️
One more holiday happening at our studio! I have to admit that I breathed a big sigh of relief after our market on Saturday (thank you thank you thank you to all the wonderful women who sold their wares and to all of you who came!) that organized holiday events were over, but we have one more up our sleeve and as @mallieloringpratt so wisely said this one is a disorganized holiday event 🥰 The shop will be open late on Thursday and our studio will be full of merriment and cheer and hopefully your familiar faces. See you Thursday, 5-8pm!
It’s the most wonderful (harrowed/frantic/merry/fraught/nostalgic/anxiety-provoking) time of the year! This weekend we’re celebrating the season with our fourth (?) annual holiday market joined by all-star vintage goddesses @minor.works@shoprustygold ceramicist @formal.evolution artists @jsmoultonstudio and @hanna_taylor_art (in house flyer maker extraordinaire) and we will have loaves of insane focaccia by Summer St Bread Co. See you at our studio, 11-3 this Saturday!
