Flotsam is made of friends we’ve found along the coast and you can tell Meghan Morris @formal.evolution has the Cape and Islands in her soul while working from her home base of Cambridge, MA. Meghan’s ceramics are a study in the living natural form - tenderness, strength, and connection are all found within and between her vessels and sculptures. [ 📸 @formal.evolution ]

ascent/descent 2026 Mother is a lover of form Mother on the day you were born … Words and music by my brother Julian @laypersonmusic Some words I wrote about the work when I applied to be a part of the show: Drawing on my reverence for the natural world, forms are born out of a primal, intuitive place. The act of making feels sacred, and my process fosters a deepening of my connection with the energies of growth and expansion that I see, particularly in the botanical realm. As a mother of three children under 8, my life for the last several years has been full of caregiving, and my art practice has evolved to include this vocation, often at the expense of time in the studio. The work I am submitting reflects the part of my practice that was born out of this evolution, one that I have come to cherish - that of observation and paying close attention to the shapes in nature. The hanging shell and driftwood suspended were chosen and collected during a time when “actual making” was hard to come by. I stored the contours of these treasures in my bones, until I could finally transmit them through my hands into the clay at the studio. In this way, my forms have a conversation with the images that conceived them. There is a balanced energy - a descent and ascent - that creates for me a calming vibration between the forms and connects them as one. This reflects my own belief in non-duality. Being a part of Garden without a Gate was and honor and a joy. Many thanks to @gallery263 an @dug_bro as well as @kateholcombhale @cicelycarew for curation. PS if you’re still reading, photos with my editor Genevieve who broke a piece I was going to include - true collaboration.

plants and kids and art and time flying spring into summer as the longest daylight days are here I am trying to lean into the reality of the blurred the lines between my “art practice” and the “rest of my life”, as if they could be separate

Time for a Maker Spotlight! Because it’s never been a better time to buy local + buy handmade––and we truly believe there’s an artist, craftsperson, artisan, or maker out there to inspire + spark joy for everyone. And one of the best things we feel we can do as a small business in the community is help introduce you to them, connecting these incredible, talented makers with the people that will treasure their work! Today we’re sharing the work of local ceramicist @formal.evolution whose work we’re carrying a selection of at our Mass Ave store this holiday season. Meghan’s pieces are heavily influenced by the natural world, exploring the organic gestures of nature through shape, form + material. You can pop into Mass Ave to see, touch, and hold them in person––or send us a dm here if you’re interested in a specific piece, as these beauties are not available on our website! . #holidayhandmadegifts #potterylove #smallbusiness #shopsmall #localartist  #smallbatch #cambridgelocalfirst #communityappreciation #slowgifting #slowgiftshop #handmadepottery #homedecor

Sculpture for sale at meghanemorris.com This work comes straight from the soul - and each piece is unique in its energy and form. Centerpiece, art object, outdoor garden sculpture - they love to be moved around a space and feel alive to me. Also happy when nested with vessels and flowers or branches of course. More to come…

As someone who spends most of her time thinking about shapes, plants, sculpture, and their intersections, running outside has always been a way for me connect with myself and observe - I find it all to be connected. I am still marinating in the experience of training for, running in, and recovering from the marathon - somehow now 2 weeks past. Deep wells of gratitude for what felt like more than an athletic endeavor - something that became a transformative experience for my spirit. I felt as though I was holding my own hand through various obstacles and moments of doubt, and hugging myself in moments of perseverance and elation. Befriending all my parts (shout out to IFS for deep healing), has been a profound, non-linear and still in process journey. I am so appreciative of all of the support from friends and family, and folks I will never know who came out to shout incoherent cries of encouragement along the sidelines on race day. I thought a lot about labor during the race (surprise surprise lol), - about working with contractions, breathing deep, trusting my body - and believing I could make it to the “other side”. What a gift.
