@kylieyang has built an outdoor life shaped by action, service, and community. From thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail to creating more welcoming access through @outdoorasiancolorado and @denveroutdoorgeardistro , her work reflects a belief that time spent outside can offer something to everyone. In our latest interview, Kylie shares thoughtful reflections on representation, confidence, and helping others take their first steps outdoors. “An equitable outdoors means that everyone who would like to utilize outdoor spaces understands that they have a place there.” She also speaks on trail life, hiking with her dog Sullivan, and the kind of community that forms when people feel safe, seen, and supported. Kylie’s story is a reminder that creativity can take many forms. Sometimes it looks like opening doors for others. If you’re like me and don’t want to give up apartment space for an at-home work setup, but do want a beautiful place to work in, come work with me at Switchyards Sloan’s Lake! Memberships are $129/ month and get you 24/7 access to all of the Switchyards locations around Denver (Sloan’s Lake, Five Points, Baker, LoHi). They have unlimited free coffee from @huckleberryroasters & @sweetbloomcoffee (and oat milk for all of my lactose intolerant/ vegan friends🫡) and quiet rooms that you can reserve for taking calls. I’ve already run into friends here, and can’t wait for a summer of working and yapping at Switchyards with y’all!

Yesterday I finished the Denver Orbital Trail !! What a journey it has been- I started this trail in late November as a winter project for myself, and a project it was. If you’re not familiar, the Denver Orbital Trail is a 177-mile trail that circles metro Denver. It’s divided into 28 segments, and most people do it as a section hike (so did I). This trail is a combination of existing trails, multi-use paths, and road walks. From the start, this felt like a huge challenge mentally. While the segments and walking/ hiking was really straightforward, I found myself struggling with being alone. I did most long segments solo, and while I loved time alone, it was maybe a little too much time alone- my favorite parts of my hikes have always been with others. The logistics also played a huge roll in the mental exhaustion that this trail provided me with. Having to car shuffle, find car drop points, arrange rides, find bathrooms (shockingly hard and got really good at holding it for 7+ miles while walking through neighborhoods), and constantly having to stare at my phone for navigation were unique challenges that I don’t know if I need to do again. All in all, this hike was a really lovely way to get out and see parts of Denver I’d never been to before. Would I do the whole thing again? No. Would I do parts of it again? 100%.

2025 starting off with the loss of Sullivan was so so heartbreaking and difficult (and not how I imagined my year going), but am so unbelievably grateful for all of the amazing experiences and opportunities I got this year- all of the incredible memories formed, the friends that supported me through everything, and for all of the relationships (both new and old) in my life. I love you all and know 2026 is going to be so great for us ❤️🐎
