Let’s talk about specs-
Specs are the skelton in the closet for the filmmaker. They’re a major trigger word in this industry and everyone will tell you something different about whether they’re important or not. We think that just like all other art, the power of them lie within their intention. If you’re making something that you genuinly enjoy with no rules and no holds barred, then make your damn spec. If you’re doing it for anyone else but you, spend your time doing something else.
We chose a brand we dig as a vehicle to drive something we’ve always wanted to make but at the end of the day, we had so much fun making this little ad. We’ve waited a long time for an opportunity to make a vibrant and poppy ad. That opportunity has not yet come so we made it happen in our own way.
Life’s not a spectator sport.

Just a beautiful 7 days in the Upper Peninsula with the best of friends. Love you guys. My ass is bruised. My heart is full. Can’t wait to go back next year.
All gorgey photos courtesy of @codylaplantfilms 😘
Encouraging other film folk to go through their on-cam monitor SD cards and see what little gems you have from over the years. New trend we call it.
Looking at old shoots from the last damn near 10 years really puts this journey into perspective. There’s so many shoots we’ve forgotten about. All sorts of people we haven’t seen in years. Besties laughing on set. The older we get the more we realize the real purpose of making shit isn’t necessarily just the film itself it’s the countless memories and family we’ve made along the way..idgaf if that’s corny it’s just true.
Thank you to everyone who’s worked with us over the years you’ve all helped us become better filmmakers and better people in general.

Side note: if you’re not on here it’s not cuz we don’t love you, you just ain’t on the smallhd.
Turned 31 a few weeks ago and spent it in Crater Lake with my best friends and the love of my life. ❤️🔥🐔
I remember wondering what my life would look like when I’m in my 30s and I really thought things would slow down, become less chaotic and more predictable. Turns out it’s anything but all of those and I’m fully here for it.
We live in Oregon, I live with my best friends, we live on a mountain and it takes 30 minutes to get to the grocery store, we have goats and chickens, we have a garden, we have two mildly aggressive dogs that don’t get along but we make it work, I’ve never moved so far out of my comfort zone in my entire life.
We moved to Oregon 2 years ago and I’m so proud of the person I’ve become in that time. Getting away from family and friends for a bit really forced me to focus on myself and it’s put a lot into perspective for me. I’m kinder to myself, I make more of an effort to see things from other people’s point of view, I have an entirely new and stronger appreciation for the people I love, and I’ve become a lot less anxious about everything. There’s a lot of room for improvement but it’s just crazy how much can change with a move and a couple of years. I’ve had a lot of phases in my life and so far this has been my favorite.
We’re moving back to Wisconsin in September and I never thought I’d be excited about that. I miss all our people like crazy and after being gone for a while I really realized how much I’ve taken Wisconsin for granted. Idk what this next chapter looks like but I’m sure it’ll be anything but boring.
“You’ve been ice and steam and water and I’ve loved every form.”

We’re very stoked to share some stills from the short brand film we made for @fiverr ‘s new platform in tandem with our friends at @leftproductions . The cast and crew crushed it and really helped elevate this to the level it deserved. 🫡

Back in May I bought a little point and shoot Ricoh camera. It’s small enough to fit in your shirt pocket which allows you to take it everywhere. It’s nothing too special in terms of specs but you can do some fun things with the color profiles.
I didn’t think this thing was going to become one of my favorite pieces of gear I’ve ever owned.
Having something you can keep with you at all times that isn’t invasive or requires any bit of work to break out is kinda life changing for me. It helps scratch that creative itch on a day to day basis and honestly if you know how to work a cam you can get some really great images with this thing.
Here’s a few of my favorite shots I’ve gotten with it so far. These are all straight out of camera (no post editing another reason I love this lil cam)
