2023. A year that undoubtedly changed me forever. My first year as a mother was marked at the beginning with grief. With a newborn, 10 days into 2023 we lost my Father unexpectedly. I had to navigate losing a parent, while learning to be one. While it was a tough year on a personal front, professionally, I shot some of my all time favourite weddings and events, and I worked with and collaborated with amazing, inspiring people. The highlight moments of my 2023 however was watching this one grow. She truly is the sunshine of our lives. I’m finding with each chapter of my life, with each lesson in life and loss, a new perspective is found in my work for others. I know being a parent has added another dimension in which I view and capture weddings (and portrait sessions). Because this love really is like no other. I’m also acutely aware that our work as visual documentarians, hold an extra weight in times of loss and grief. I think about this at every wedding I shoot and it’s why I also emphasise an effort to also capture candid moments of the family and guests. Someone once emailed me thanking me for taking a picture of their late Aunt tearing up the dance floor because ‘that’s how I want to remember her’. That wasn’t the first email of its kind. Whilst I love my job and have fun doing it, I don’t take it lightly. I’m truly grateful to all my clients who give me the privilege to document a moment in their story. Excited for more in 2024! Happy 1 year anniversary to P&J! These two have the sweetest love story! They have known each other since they were kids as their parents are friends. Patricia told me she always had a crush on Jon. One day, Jon and Patricia’s older sister were going to a street fair. Being too young at the time, Patricia felt really sad that she wasn’t allowed to go. Jon being the sweet guy that he is, won a dog stuffie at the fair and decided to give it to Patricia to cheer her up. It did the trick. Fast forward, Jon and Patricia reconnect as adults after not seeing each other for many years. What they didn’t know at the time was that Patricia’s mother (with the kind of foresight only a mother has) kept the dog stuffie all those years! It was impossible to choose just a few frames from this day… so we’re starting at the beginning. The quiet before everything unfolds. Getting ready moments have a rhythm of their own - slower, softer, intentional. Every detail carefully chosen finds its place: the textures of fabric, the curated fashion, the sentimental pieces that carry meaning far beyond the day itself. In this case, the bespoke wedding dress itself was designed by the bride with @sallybeancouture as a personal conceptual story of love and recovery. A layering of emotion that’s hard to name - excitement alongside nerves, joy intertwined with a quiet sense of gravity. Pride, anticipation… and just a touch of the unknown. It felt like a dream starting the evening on this gorgeous Provençal estate capturing portraits of @katiejulia_ in her vintage @dior dress with her love @buckparker_ We then moved into the courtyard of La Bastide de Laurence for the Welcome Dinner which held such intentional design details created by the artist bride herself. From the painted patterns in the linens and napkins to the bespoke dress that Katie changed into - made from silk organza with her watercolor paintings printed on it. The goal was a blend of retro Slim Aaron’s and Impressionism - vibrant and refined. Together with her planner @studiosorores they created a stunning design combining timeless elegance with modernity, where every detail - from the ambience to the food - set the tone for a beautiful celebration ahead.
