Join us on Friday 14 November for a special edition of Natafelen: Meal for Collective Inner Peace 🍵 - cooking and eating together! Is there such thing as collective inner peace? Can we develop collective inner peace through a shared dinner? To close off the exhibition Underdeveloped #4, Meals for Inner Peace Research Center hosts a collective dinner on Friday 14 November, which includes two parts: cooking and eating. 15.30 - 18.30 | Cooking 19.00 - 21.00 | Dinner (vegetarian) Fee: pay as you wish or can (up from €20,00) We kindly ask you to sign-up for either the cooking workshop, dinner or both via the RSVP form in our bio before Sunday the 9th of November. About Meal for Collective Inner Peace: "We have experienced three editions of the Underdeveloped exhibition series, which takes a collaborative approach to art and focuses on working together. The concept echoes to the Indonesian word 'lumbung', which literally means a communal rice barn. This concept can also be applied to interdisciplinary and collective artistic practices, which can offer mutual aid and support within the network, even in the most extreme cases." "Whenever we encounter emergency or prepper kits, they are meant to be individual, or at most to extend to one's close family. But in times of trouble, we can't get through it alone. Lumbung thus becomes a helpful idea in critical time. Let's reimagine the notion of food for emergencies, cook and eat together from shelf-stable ingredients with participating artists from Underdeveloped #4." 📷 take_a_way #natafelen #dinner #diningamongart #weekendsinrotterdam #mealforcollectiveinnerpeace #exhibition #garagerotterdam #ruangrupa

Disaster Cooking 🥣 Organised by MIP Research Centre Sunday 19 October - 12:30 PM Join us at Garage Rotterdam for an experimental cooking session exploring how food can bring us a sense of peace, even in moments of uncertainty. About the event In March 2025, the European Commission and the High Representative introduced a new strategy to strengthen Europe’s ability to prevent and respond to emerging crises. Among its recommendations: every household should be ready to sustain itself for at least 72 hours — with essentials like food, water, documents, batteries, and more. But even though canned goods and protein bars might keep us alive — do they also nourish our sense of calm or offer the comfort we need in stressful times? In September, the regional disaster information center Rijnmond Veilig released a cookbook for emergency situations, featuring seven recipes, interviews, and a foreword by the Mayor of Rotterdam. As part of the ongoing project Meals for Inner Peace Research Center - currently on view in Underdeveloped #4 - you can try out some of these recipes at Garage Rotterdam on Sunday 19 October. Free entry with a ticket for the exhibition Underdeveloped #4. 📷 take_a_way #mipresearch #mealsforinnerpeace #event #disastercooking #exhibition #underdeveloped #ruruhuis

We're excited to host the second Crossing Table dinner at Plein, Fenix! Tickets are available online. Hope to see you soon! #2: Unveiling Tofu The menu is inspired by Bottari Truck – Migrateurs, a work by Korean artist Kimsooja, currently on view at Fenix. In Kimsooja’s work, the bottari – a traditional Korean bundle used to wrap household belongings during a move – appears as a recurring motif. The act of folding and unfolding such a bundle reflects both the feeling of being on the move and the process of making tofu: the soft tofu curd is wrapped in cloth and pressed into blocks. For East Asian communities in Europe, tofu is more than just an ingredient – it carries memories and a sense of connection to home. Made from soybeans, tofu is part of a rich ecosystem of plant-based proteins, ranging from soy milk and tofu skin to fermented flavours like soy sauce, natto, and tempeh. This dinner is developed by Rotterdam-based Sumerie Dining and celebrates tofu in all its textures and forms. Through a variety of preparations, we invite you to rediscover tofu – not only as a culinary element, but as a sustainable, resilient, and culturally meaningful medium. -- The event is curated by Yen-Ting Kuan, who has a particular focus on contemporary art and its relationship with new technologies, politics, and ecology. The menu is developed by Sumerie Dining, founded by Soyeon An from South Korea and Ying-Ting Shen from Taiwan, believes food reconnects people with their roots and cherished memories. The storyteller Chaeyoung Kim's artistic practice is informed by means of illustration, physical props, self-publishing, and hosting. They are all work and live in Rotterdam. -- The event is part of the publishing project, Melon, co-supported by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie. -- Photo provided by Sumerie Dinging

An Artist’s Guide to the Culinary “An Artist’s Guide to the Culinary” focuses on contemporary artistic practices of cookbook publishing. Taking the Netherlands as its point of departure, the project delves into the manifestation of environmental conditions, socio-economic and historical contexts, ecological change, and scientific speculation in cookbooks and artist-run culinary culture. Amidst the growing international interest in (South-) East Asian art collectives and the prolonged lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, community-oriented art practice through collective cooking and eating has surged. This approach has brought a resurgence of food in art, after still-life painting in the 17th and 18th centuries and the radical art movements of the 1960s. In addition to collective cooking and eating, publishing cookbooks is also an alternative way of integrating artistic practices with everyday life. This project, led by curator Yen-Ting Kuan and Limestone Books, will take place as a book fair, exhibition, book launch and picnic & talk. Participating artists and speakers are Jonas Palekas, Pei-Ying Lin, Walking Grass Agriculture, Eben Kirksey and Tzu-Tung Lee. Date: 26 August- 11 September Venue: Limestone Books, Grote Gracht 63, 6211 ST, Maastricht

🌟 Books are Bridges Art Book Fair presents "Virophilia" by Pei-Ying Lin 🌟 I am delighted to announce that the extraordinary cookbook "Virophilia" by Pei-Ying Lin will make its debut at PrintRoom's "Books are Bridges Art Book Fair" on Sunday 9 July. 📖✨At the event, Pei-Ying will present her thought-provoking post-natural cookbook "Virophilia", published by Set Margins, which offers an alternative perspective on our relationship with viruses. I am also bringing Pei-Ying and CHAxARTxRTM together for this event. CHAxARTxRTM will delight your senses with a unique Taiwanese tea experience. Discover Dongfangmeiren Tea, also known as Oriental Beauty, whose aroma is created by a series of biological reactions triggered by insects (Jacobiasca formosana). This tea demonstrates the delicate balance between nature and environmental sustainability. This Virophilia book launch event is part of a program I co-curate with Limestone Books in Maastricht supported by 國藝會.
