A couple of weeks ago @saramaurerwrites and I FINALLY met in person while she was on book tour in Wisconsin and I’m so glad we did. I suggested we meet in Delafield and as I suspected, she said the town was super cute. (I’m still thinking a Hallmark movie could be filmed there, anchored by @drinkbluecollar where we met.) We’re both Midwesterners, both graduates of Stanford’s online writing certificate program, and have many writer friends in common. She’s just written this amazing book called A Good Animal and everyone needs to go find a copy and read it right away! Trust me on this. My travels are coincidentally taking me to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where she’s based, next month and I’m looking forward to meeting up again, Sara!
For years I’ve driven past @hamiltonwoodtype on the way to Door County and it’s either been off hours or I was in a hurry but I vowed one day I’d visit. Then, late last year, @milwaukeemag assigned me a story about the museum and I finally went. You don’t have to be a printmaker, or even an artist, to appreciate it. This quirky museum reminds of how innovative companies can be and also how printmaking has served as a key way to communicate passions, politics and ideas over the last century. Two years ago in April I flew to the Maldives and quickly learned that Doha and Dubai are pretty much the only airports that service this idyllic spot in paradise. Spent Valentine’s Day with my husband cross-country skiing at our favorite place, Winter Park in Minocqua, Wisconsin, and enjoying an unusually warm wintry day but thankfully there’s still snow on the ground and the skiing conditions were great!
