Who would have thought that 18 months ago when the pandemic emerged, we would be here in beautiful Tokyo, Japan— about to race for Olympic titles. I had an idea of what our pathway to this moment would look like, and at every turn this “idea” was shifted, adapted, and grown. We are now four days out from starting our Olympic regatta, and I will be signing off from social media until July 30. Know that we have realized our vision, and the gifted women I have the privilege to cox are ready for the mission. You can follow our journey over the next 9 days with @rowingcanada @teamcanada & @cbc_olympics Canada, we can hear you cheering— so make it loud! Thank you Japan for hosting the world and giving me & my crew the chance to redefine excellence. I have so much gratitude towards our hosts who welcomed us a year late, with significant extra work, risk, and financial implications. Thank you Canada for having our backs & cheering us on from home, at all hours of the night (don’t cry, Mom!). Let me tell you, WE HEARD YOU! Thank you to the @teamcanada staff who also saw “all hours of the night”, but in Tokyo’s time zone working hard to support the mission and connect our stories with our loved ones back at home. Thank you to @rowingcanada coaches (looking at you, Michelle and Carol!) and staff for supporting our dreams— I hope the next generation sees our race, and thinks to them self “why not me?”. I found myself wondering about this very question in 2004 when I met Olympic coxswain, Sarah Pape. So yes, it CAN be YOU. Now it’s your turn, @cdnparalympics ! LFG. #thankful #gratitude #olympics #rowing #tokyo2020 #teamcanada #rbcolympian #paralympics

“Why not us?” Friday I went to the startline of the Olympic final with 8 of Canada’s best rowers who were committed with their body and spirit to redefining excellence. Our minds were clear on our mission, and we were lucky to have the support of many individuals across the world. Our coach, Michelle Darvill, kept reminding us that the sum of our parts was greater than the individual (and to stay in the rhythm, keep the catches direct, chest up, knees driving down, etc. etc.). I asked the women “why not us” and the product of their choice was success. Racing with courage, the women responded to every call I made with their legs and their hearts. One of my favourite moments of the day was singing the national anthem with my eight. Shortly after the 2016 Paralympics, I was selected to be a witness at the Canadian Senate in favour of Bill C-210. The goal of this bill was to change the lyrics of “O Canada” to represent all Canadians, regardless of gender. I have dreamed of this moment since then— seeing the Canadian flag rise up, and belting out the words “in all of us command” alongside a group of women I respected and love. We rose to the occasion as one entity which equalled the achievement of this goal— both the win and the reality of a more equal national anthem. Thank you to the women who made up this eight for putting their trust in me, and to our coaches for believing in us. My optimist tendencies hope that our win inspires the next generation of women to ask “why not us?”. #whynotyou #rowing #coxswain #women #ideashappenhere #Canada #olympics #vickygoham

I am incredibly proud and grateful to share that I have been selected as a CAN Fund recipient this year. For me, the direct support is more than just financial, it’s a reminder that I have people who support and believe in me as I forge a pathway that is atypical. CAN Fund has been my most consistent sponsor through my career and they show up for me in the quiet moments of the Olympic cycle when I need it most. CAN Fund receives no government funding, and exists entirely because Canadians show up for us athletes and say “I believe in you”. To every CAN Fund donor— thank you for believing in me and my journey.

Listen to @kristenkit cox her eight in the 2023 final of the Remenham Challenge Cup, against a formidable GB eight they had battled with only two weeks earlier. This also features race commentary by the legendary @martincross and @andreaproske , who won Gold with Kristen in the Tokyo Olympic Games. 🎥: @eamonglavin

Athletes never really stop being athletes. Some of us just move to a different field of play 👏🏽 Proud to be part of the WADA Athlete Engagement Program team for the Paralympic Games.. and even prouder to do it alongside these amazing women. 💚

Today is World Mental Health Day. Listen to the story of Olympic Champion Kristen Kit of Canada, as she discuss Mental Health. The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. The day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

Ni Hao LET THE PONIES RIDE! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🤠 I’m checking my cinch, because tomorrow the Canadian women’s eight is taking me for a rip down the track at the World Rowing Championships! Catch us in Lane 1 at 10:05am local time. Get those cowbells out and cheer as loud as you can— we can hear you!!! I’m grateful for those who have supported me to have this opportunity to race at my 8th senior world championships. I didn’t think I would be here this time last year, but a few people helped me re-write the narrative in my head about what my life “should” look like. Thank you Izak, for going along with my chaotic life choices… I promise we will take a honeymoon one day. Thank you to those friends and family who didn’t say I was crazy to my face, and to my federation who made a pathway for a return. Finally, thank you to Jane Roos and CAN Fund. The work you do on behalf of athletes goes so much further than just filling the funding gap. You give me confidence to write my own story!

Psych! The proverbial cat 🐈 is out of the bag… I will be racing at this year’s World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China. More to come as I revive this platform in an effort to share my journey with my favourite ponies in the women’s eight! 🐴 Special thanks to my soon to be husband (not pictured) and my parents Jerry & Janice for loving me despite my earnest attempts to stay financially insecure as a rowing athlete/ veterinary school hopeful.
