Filmed at @mitla_cafe by @bdpimaging and edited by @_recordslive here’s some stills from the day shot by @hltv
Last week we were fortunate enough to film a live session at the famed @mitla_cafe in San Bernardino for our @nprmusic #tinydeskcontest submission. This was a dream come true for me, my grandfather was born across the street in his childhood home long since demolished. The original Swing Auditorium stood down the street before the plane crash and it was never rebuilt. The Mitla has been a staple in the community for many families and years. Thank you Michael, Steven, Dave and all the staff who allowed us in on their day off. Thank you James Love, @quin.alden_ and @kobeman__ for playing alongside me. Thank you @bdpimaging for filming and @_recordslive for editing so quickly. Thank you @hltv for facilitating this connection. Wish us luck on the contest or just feel free to watch for yourself on our website swingauditorium.live
Trying to sum up the best years of my life into an instagram post seems impossible, but I’ll be dammed if I don’t try. I’ve had the pleasure of dating this little lady, Ava Fojtik, for two years, and because of her there isn’t a day that I haven’t woken up smiling. She is truly the most talented, intelligent, inspiring, and painfully funny person that I’ve ever met. She’s made a quiet man into a guy that can’t stop yapping about how excited he is to be with her. In two years together we’ve done two plays together, played in three separate bands, moved in to a beautiful apartment, raised an evil cat son, watched almost all of sex and the city, made friends, made enemies, met hundreds of puppets, learned how to cook, learned many instruments, gone outside a few times, been unemployed and re-employed, raced swan boats, been soaked in blood, met Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride, flew a plane with SpongeBob, acted in two short films together, and probably about a million other otherworldly and cool things.
My main point is that two years ago, I would have never imagined myself being here. I would have never imagined I’d be in a dream apartment, with my dream lady, living my dream life. There’s no doubt in mind that without her, I wouldn’t be a quarter as well rounded, kind of cool, and happy as I am today. She inspires me endlessly. I’ve never laughed harder, cried less, happy cried more, or just felt so safe in my life. I love her, and there’s just no way I could be any more sure about that. I hope to be as cool as her one day. I’m so thankful for two years with my Tchotchke.
