The Bride came out last week, and I was lucky to be involved with the music in the film.
I recorded all of Ronnie Reed’s song with Jake Gyllenhaal and The Nighthawks at @powerstationatberkleenyc , and mixed a couple of them.
The score was composed by @hildur_gudnadottir . I was the Pro Tools Op for the recording of the score under @derik_lee , and edited and prepped the recording for @ootermind to mix. The film also features appearances by Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley, and I had the chance to record David Murray on saxophone for some score overlays.
A really special project to be part of.
Big first for me today! Recording and mixing the London Symphony Orchestra for WQXR’s live broadcast from Carnegie Hall. Lot of help, support, and guidance from my fellow WQXR engineers. The program is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Walton’s Symphony No. 1. 📷: @norique_nyc
Finally found my signed @dillingerescapeplan set list from their 2009 Ire Works tour at the Brewery in NC. This album and show were incredibly pivotal to me. I bought two tickets and begged an older friend from church who didn’t know who they were to take me, because I knew my parents wouldn’t ask questions if we went together (thanks Dan, sorry mom). The venue was way too small for where they were at the time and the pit and energy were incredible. I remember @gregpuciato grabbing me by the neck and getting in my face during Come To Daddy and I believe it was one of @billyrymer ‘s first shows with the band. From this first show to seeing their last show at Webster Hall in NYC, this band changed my life. Hope I can get @benweinman to sign it one day. Knew I had it around here somewhere.
Had the opportunity to record @the_dapkings last year on several tracks for @johnlegend ‘s newest record, released last Friday. Produced by @ryantedder on @republicrecords . Was a whirlwind day. Found out I was engineering at 1am after an all day session. We loaded in at 8am and were recording by 10am. The session ended at 4am. Glad I had @casioblahblah backing me up @powerstationatberkleenyc .
That’s a wrap. Although it was a very stressful year, a lot of great things happened in 2021. Looking forward to helping make more music in 2022. Happy New Year!
I’ve been working on a handful of songs since moving to NYC. One of them is a reworked version of the first song I ever wrote in middle school. When I wrote it, I never imagined I’d be where I am today. Maybe I’ll actually finish them all one day. Thanks to @matthew.r.soares for laying down drums @powerstationatberkleenyc
