“Breakdancing isn’t a sport.” So they say 👀. We believe dance can teach you everything that sports can AND more. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž Dance teaches us life lessons in the form of hard work, focus, resilience, teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, discipline, self-expression—the list goes on and on. There is more to dance than working in the industry or winning battles. Not everyone wants to play championship games. That’s okay! But we CAN become champions at heart. 🏆 We’re here to support you on your dance journey, whether you’re stepping onto the stage or dancing in your living room. Big shoutout to @thecapsule.ldn @theduke.ldn @geni_lou , for the amazing opportunity to share @the_arete_project philosophy! đŸ«¶đŸ«¶đŸ«¶ Ready to explore the transformative power of dance? Dancers: This weighs heavy on my heart, especially if we’re practicing cultural dances like hip hop. We can ask for excellence in teaching AND also know that context is EVERYTHING, especially as guests. I’ll write more after my break.

I think we’re overcomplicating something that’s actually pretty simple. Maybe this helps bring some clarity.

Niecey’s in the Studio! The Studio at 2+U (@2andu ), that is 💃✹ Current resident Niecey Chong (@knee_c ) is a dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Seattle. Her work grows from years spent moving between commercial dance, street dance communities, and educational spaces — always asking how these cultural dance forms are taught, represented, and sustained. While always busy collaborating, running workshops, and teaching choreography classes around the city, she’s using her residency at The Studio to reconnect to her own personal artistic practice and rediscover a sense of creative exploration. “The Studio has given me permission to be creatively selfish in a healthy way: to follow curiosity, explore ideas that don’t need to lead anywhere yet, and spend time with questions rather than outcomes. That kind of space is hard to find, and it’s been essential for maintaining balance, clarity, and sustainability in my practice.” Follow Niecey (@knee_c ) to stay up to date on everything this artist is up to, including dance workshops open to the public! Photography by Jim Coleman 👉 What can The Studio at 2+U do for you? 👈 The Studio at 2+U, a partnership between @Shunpike and @2andu , provides studio space for rehearsals, workshops, and live performances to artists in the heart of downtown Seattle at no cost. This space supports local creatives to continue to practice their art and removes the barrier of access to space. Studio Features that support artists to thrive: ⭐1,100 sq ft ⭐Hardwood floors ⭐Private restroom ⭐Bluetooth-enabled sound system Interested in the space? You don’t struggle with choreography
you struggle with the foundation before choreography. Most dancers think taking more class by itself will fix it. But to learn choreography is to learn to execute. The moment your body doesn’t recognize something, that’s one more thing to remember. The dancers who pick up fast aren’t guessing. They’ve built a movement bank. So when something shows up, their body already knows where to go. That’s what drilling is for—to make deposits so choreography actually makes sense. ▶ Watch the reel, then be honest: What’s one deposit you need to make in your movement bank? 👇 #SeattleDancers #SeattleDanceClasses #DanceTraining #DanceEducation #GrooveTraining

If you’re dancing just to look smart, you’ve already missed the point. 🎯 Start with instinct. That first impulse your body has, before your brain jumps in and starts trying to explain everything. That instinct? THAT’S intelligence too. You can always get clever later. Refine it. Shape it. Add layers. But intelligence just for the sake of sounding smart
I don’t know. I’m looking for the thing in the movement that actually makes you FEEL something. This is a small moment from my Groove Choreo class series with @stg_ece . For the dancers training with me here in Seattle — this is the kind of work we’re doing in the room. #SeattleDancers #SeattleDanceClasses #AdultDanceClass #DanceTraining #DanceEducation

A little window into how I think about dance. When I teach, I’m not just thinking about steps. I’m thinking about how dancers build a relationship with music — because that’s where individuality lives. That’s where movement starts to look like you đŸ«”. My goal in class is always the same: help dancers trust their instincts, and find their own voice inside the movement. Seattle dancers, this is the lens I bring into the room. đŸŽ¶ #SeattleDancers #SeattleDance #DanceEducation #adultdancers

The practice is more important than the goal. The goal is inevitable if you stay the course. Reminding myself of @sirroberttakespics words. Everything is on time. #seattledance #movementvoice #dancejourney #seattledancers #freestyledance

📍Thursdays, 6:30-7:30pm at Kerry Hall Groove Choreography is a beginner-level dance class series where you learn choreography by building a better relationship with the music and your body ✹ Instead of forcing shapes or trying to “perform,” the focus is on listening to the music and letting movement come from how it feels in your body 🌀You’ll learn a groove-based phrase in a way that feels connected, relaxed, and free-not stiff or overthought. This class is for dancers who want choreography to feel good in their body and make sense internally, not just look right on the outside. 💙 Class series starts on 2/12. Ages 16+ Register online at STGPresents.org 🎉

Raw. Unfiltered. In progress. What does it mean to be fully yourself, knowing all the things you’ve picked up are disjointed. Bits and pieces here and there. And yet, all those very bits and pieces is what makes you, you? Can you take up space even in the midst of that tension? ⏳💭
