Last October I woke up in the back of an ambulance tied down to a stretcher. I’d had another demonic possession. After two they call it Epilepsy. I had to move back into my childhood bedroom as I adjusted to medication that I will be on for the rest of my life. The main side effect was the most vivid and horrifying ultra HD nightmares. Every single night for three months I’d shoot up in bed, drenched in sweat. Trying desperately to self soothe, but the only thing that helped me was listening to music full blast in my headphones. I gradually built this playlist of the most effective songs that I’d return to. Can’t find the words to thank the people who step up, not just in the moment, but in the months of confusion and frustration, when I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone, checking in, calling me an attention seeker, taking me for lunch, to the cinema, on the train, and staying with me so I could go back to my flat for a night here and there. I’ve been beeped, scanned and hooked up to machines, I am the unexpected item in the bagging area. P.S. Don’t put a spoon in my mouth 🥄 🫨

things that have altered my brain chemistry 🧠🧪 1/ when I was in year 4 I played Wealhtheow in Beowulf, I was cast because I looked “Viking AF” 2/ stumbled across this Nelly Furtado cover now I listen to it every single day 3/ swapping music and life stories with the stereo man, who I know nothing and everything about 4/ discovering Jeff Buckley’s dad 5/ realising both me and my dad had separately bought Masquerade for the mystery 6/ Kit Williams reunited with the golden hare he buried 7/ Elizabeth Cotten left handed playing a right handed guitar upside down 8/ Keanu and Sandra on the press tour for Speed 9/ this Joyce Heath song paralysed me 10/ the horror of the camera being turned back on me there are many more things 🌪️
