So this was our very first business card when Kiyah Wright and I started transitioning from doing hair in DC to working in NYC in 1995. ❤️ I love this photo because it really marked the beginning of our introduction to the New York salon lifestyle, music, fashion, and entertainment industry.
Kiyah brought that DC flavor and energy to NYC and they were loving every minute of it. Around this time we met and worked with Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Lil' Kim and the list kept growing from there.
Hair was never really something I planned on doing. Life just pushed me into it after I lost my job at the telephone company in DC. A renowned DC hairstylist, Geoffrey Ayers, took me under his wing and taught me so much. After working with him, I went on to work with Frank Herring 🕊🕊🕊 before he passed in 1991. After his passing, I started working with Kiyah at Imagine This Hair Salon in Silver Spring. We also worked at another salon in Silver Spring before making that big move to NYC in 1995.
Looking back now, it’s amazing to see where it all started. I’m glad I took that journey to NYC with Kiyah because without it, I may have never experienced the worlds of entertainment, hair, fashion, and ballroom the way I did. My last exit from hair was the Miseducatuon of Lauryn Hill tour in 2000. That's how long it has been since I left that industry. I had fun but it was time for me to move. I don't regret the experiences. I met a lot of people and seen a lot of faces. So much so that I DON'T remember. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Oh well. LIFE IS TRICKY!
Model: Tanisha ❤️ You were always one of my favorite clients. ✨
What happens when you bring the entire call sheet into a room with intention?
You get real conversation. Real access. Real alignment.
The PROUD OF US Artist Education Suite in NYC was built for the people behind the curtain. Behind the camera, the glam chairs, the lights, the art departments, and the budgets. The culture architects shaping everything.
From seasoned veterans to the newest production assistants, every session proved what’s possible when we choose community and collaboration over gatekeeping and ego to achieve clarity over misinformation.
This is what it looks like when we celebrate, elevate, and unite the people who move the industry forward.
Same call sheet. No hierarchy. We are PROUD OF US!
SPECIAL THANK YOU to @themakeupshow !!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you to my sister Jalannia Sutton—
Watching her, my true MUZE and inspiration, move through life with grace, resilience, and love has given me more strength than words can explain.
Our Mom may have only had 39 years here, but her legacy lives loudly through us every single day. We are because SHE was. 🕊️✨
Happy Mother’s Day from the Muze Hair family. 🤍
I used to dream of days like this… 🤍
Motherhood has taught me that strength can look soft, patient, loving, and still incredibly powerful.
Between work, life, and raising three amazing kids, I’ve learned how important it is to still pour into yourself too. Sometimes confidence starts with something as simple as feeling good about yourself — especially your hair ✨
Grateful for @MuzeHairbeauty & @kiyahwright 🤍

Kiyah Wright learned the ropes of hair and beauty from her grandmother in the salon. She had the opportunity to do her grandmother’s hair one last time at 94 years old before she passed. 🕊️
From student to CEO, this is what legacy looks like. A story of love, beauty, wisdom, and generations of women pouring into one another.
A full-circle moment Kiyah will carry forever. 🤍
