Been reading some, listening to more music, discovering more of my family’s history, baking (and baking again), and learning how to be a father. I’ve decided to write about it.

Before Beige has surpassed 250k streams across platforms and honestly, Im kinda shocked. The most painful song to write and record has traveled the furthest. Like I literally get a DM about this song every other day.
I know I’ve been pretty quiet on here but I’ve been mostly just taking time to write, record, live and oh—be a father! Yes my little one is 1 month today and has been such an inspiration for me and my music. I’ve started to write with the prompt…what would I want her to hear/know as she grows? So that has caused som shifts in my material but a shift that is still 100% Khalil Amaru.
Since the success of Before Beige, I’ve been challenged to write and share more transparently without fear of condemnation or rejection. And even moreso now with my daughter in mind. So here’s to doing more of that this year 🙌🏽🥹

Today I turn 27! — and I’m celebrating the simple fact that I’m still here. Still breathing. Still becoming. But I’d be remiss not to tell you why…
In middle school, I wrestled with thoughts of ending it all — almost weekly. I was lost in a search for identity, aching to belong, desperate for someone or something to claim me. I had no tribe. My family loved me, but couldn’t grasp the weight I was carrying. And no matter how hard I tried, I never quite fit into the world’s mold.
All I had was a cheap Yamaha keyboard and my voice. But that little piano became my sanctuary. I’d race home, lock my door, and pour my soul into those keys. That cracked, unweighted sound held me — it held the beginnings of hope.
It was there, in that quiet room, that I met God for myself. Not the distant, stained-glass version. The real God. The refuge. The strong tower. The Father who whispered, You are mine.
He told me I was His son. That I was loved. That He had prepared a place for me. That I was not forgotten. He sent His only Son not to condemn me, but to carry me — into life, both now and forever.
And that’s when I found out who I really was. Not who the world said I should be, but who He called me to be. And now? I walk boldly in that identity.
I know the world has questions — about whether He’s real, whether He’s good. But I don’t question it. Because I’ve encountered Him. Not a God crafted by human hands, but the One who was, is, and has no end.
So every birthday — this one included — I dedicate back to Him.
Because I shouldn’t be here. But I am.
And as long as there is breath in my lungs, I will tell you why.
