After 7 Years and 50+ in-person experiences the @creativesphilly platform is excited to have one consistent home again in 2026! Creatives’ was launched in the spring of 2018 at Highpointe Performance Cafe/Venue in Roxborough. In 2022 the venue that was home for Creatives’ closed and the events have bounced around the city across a total of seven other locations since. Throughout the past seven years Creatives’ has hosted more than a handful of different styled events. While each have been unique, all of them have been bent towards platforming artists and helping creatives connect/network in practical ways. Coming into 2025 the team decided to scale back its frequency overall and focus exclusively on hosting the cross-genre open mic experiences that started it all. Since the pandemic Creatives’ has hosted summertime outdoor open mics just outside of Venice Island Performing Arts Center’s state of the art theatre. Unexpectedly after this year’s August outdoor open mic experience, Venice Island’s staff and Creatives’ Philly leadership sat down to discuss what it could look like to partner together year-round for 2026! The result is a half dozen open mic events hosted once every other month beginning on Tuesday February 3rd! Each event will include more than a dozen slots for open mic performers pulled lottery style to start each show followed by a closing named featured. February, April, October, and Decembers events will be hosted inside Venice’s Theatre. June & August are planned to be hosted outside on site with the indoor theatre serving as a rain location for both of those dates. The first three events of 2026 are all published. The final three are well on their way to being finalized by the turn of the year. The freestyle king @rqtek made the trip down 95 from NYC to celebrate Creatives’ 8 year anniversary and our curator @scott7smith birthday. Tek killed his performance per usual. Huge shoutout to Jimmy Perkins (not on socials) for supporting our open mics consistently for the past few years. It was a GIFT to finally have him drop his name in the basket again to perform. Jimmy performed an original song dedicated to his lovely wife. It was a wholesome moment for everyone who was there to witness it. Our next open mic is just a few weeks away.
