#TAKE COLLABORATION X Khadim Ali
In Crossing the Invisible Borders, Ina Puri ( @inapuri02 )is in conversation with Khadim Ali ( @khadim96 ), tracing collaboration as a lived, evolving relationship shaped by time, trust, and shared experience.
Centred around Ali’s work at the Bukhara Biennale ( @bukhara.biennial ), the conversation reflects on his collaboration with Uzbek master embroiderer Sanjar Nazarov ( @suzani_studio ) and local craftswomen-where singing, poetry, cooking, and storytelling became as integral to the work as the act of embroidery itself.
Moving across questions of authorship, symbolism, and displacement, Ali speaks of working with Afghan refugee artisans, the politics of representation, and the role of myth-from the Shahnameh to Sufi philosophy—in shaping his visual language. What emerges is a practice grounded not in singular authorship, but in collective memory, shared labour, and the slow building of trust.

Catch works by artist Khadim Ali at the VIP Lounge at ART SG.
Khadim Ali (b. 1978) is an artist of Afghan origin based in Sydney, whose practice draws deeply from the traditions of miniature painting and tapestry while engaging with contemporary political and humanitarian concerns. His works reflect on histories of displacement, loss, and ideological violence, tracing the lived experiences of marginalised communities affected by war, persecution, and forced migration. Drawing from epic narratives such as the Shahnameh, Ali explores shifting notions of friend and foe, victor and victim, through intricate compositions marked by delicate colour and detail. His practice is shaped by personal histories of migration and trauma, and by an enduring engagement with both Eastern and Western art-historical references.

LATITUDE 28 X ART SG | Booth SA03
LATITUDE 28 presents works by Firi Rahman and Yogesh Ramkrishna, two contemporary artists whose practices engage with questions of displacement, belief, and socio-political consciousness. Firi Rahman’s multidisciplinary practice reflects on migration, ecological change, and the idea of home through symbolic architectural forms and restrained visual language. Yogesh Ramkrishna works across drawing, printmaking, and installation to construct narrative-driven worlds that interrogate myth, media, and the absurdities of a post-truth society.
We are also displaying Khadim Ali’s tapestry at Art SG’s VIP Lounge. Khadim’s practice draws from the traditions of miniature painting and tapestry to examine histories of displacement, ideological conflict, and cultural loss.

Artist Khadim Ali @khadim96 works across painting, miniature art, and tapestry, exploring themes of war, displacement, and cultural memory. Inspired by the Shahnameh epic, he creates a monumental two-part tapestry in collaboration with Bukharian embroiderer Sanjar Nazarov and Afghan embroiderers. The tapestry is anchored to the wall featuring shimmering metalwork created in collaboration with blacksmith Said Kamolov and the words of the poet Rudaki. The work tells the story of the Simurgh, a benevolent mythical bird that has protected people from the destruction of the world several times over, carrying the history of humanity through some of the deepest forms of heartbreak imaginable.
