You have exactly 3 more chances to see this incredible show at @theartsclub . I'm so happy I managed to get a ticket tonight. I wasn't expecting to cry as much as I did, but the instant my beautiful friend @steffwithanff started singing this song, it was over for me. Just DEAD. Everyone did such amazing work, the band sounded fantastic, I got to hear my two favorite singers in the city (@steffwithanff & @madelaide ) sing TOGETHER, and I got to meet and thank the phenomenal @lisahorner26 for an absolutely gobsmackingly beautiful performance. Also, (second slide) I feel blessed to have met this charming doggo named Bebop outside at intermission. I've had a good day.

Sometime, when you're preparing 5 services worth of music, which also involves learning a 7-minute Gregorian plainchant, you need to take a gospel break in the church hall. #hiseyeisonthesparrow #isingbecauseimhappy

I'm supposed to be tidying up. Is this ADHD or just normal procrastinating? #musicismorefunthancleaning

This is apparently what I do to decompress after already playing piano pretty much all day. After the choir goes home, I sit in the almost-dark and do this. You can't tell, but the moon was rather appropriately shining down into the church as I played 🌜

I have been remiss in acknowledging that today would have been the 96th birthday of my hero, and (unbeknownst to him) friend and teacher, Stephen Sondheim. So here is my favorite picture of him, which I have used as my desktop background for over a decade now.

Found this video on my iCloud or Google photos or somewhere and while it's still St.Paddy's, I figured I'd repost it. I filmed it in 2020 literally on the day that the COVID lockdown was announced in BC, 6 whole years ago today. Make of that, uhhh, what you will? Plus ça change...

This was an entirely impromptu little medley I recorded last Thursday after a choir rehearsal. With an overwhelming amount of depressing/distressing/disgusting news nowadays, I just want some peace, in every sense of the word. And the 2nd movement of the Beethoven "Pathétique" sonata is one of the most "peaceful" melodies" I know. I'm playing it from memory, so – imperfectly. Though I did forget how it went at the end, so I had it ready to bring up on my phone (very very tiny) As I was playing it (the first time), I had the idea to interpolate the classic round many of you probably know "Dona Nobis Pacem" (Grant/Give Us Peace), and then the song "Let There Be Peace On Earth" sprang into my head. Both of those tunes are in 3/4 time but I had come out of playing the Beethoven which is in 4, so now they're in 4 and in A♭ too. Anyhoo...I was basically making this up by ear as I went so excuse the occasional hesitant flub. I guess I call it a "peace medley"? Also do me a solid, and just let the video play to the end maybe while you do something else. Not that I'm trying to monetize these clips, but the average viewing time for these videos is depressingly less 30 seconds. 2% of people watch until the end on most of my (not-particularly-long) reels. Also, *nstagram de-prioritizes suggesting or recommending any video longer than 3 minutes; in essence, the platform actively encourages short attention spans and instant gratification. I mean, if you hate it, then turn it off or click away. but maybe just let it play. Also the piano needs tuning, I know. It was literally recorded with my iPad camera and mic, perched precariously on a music stand. That is all. Go in peace.
