ANXIETY STRESSBALL
There is a correlation between the rising rates of mental stress or distress, and the neoliberal capitalist system we live in. Stress balls, hand spinners, pop-it games, and other fidget toys are nothing but the temporary relievers of a gamified and banalized state of anxiety. Their function is less physiological than biopolitical–not a remedy, but a stabilizer. They share with antidepressants the same role of "maintenance drugs" identified by philosopher Mark Fisher in Ghosts of my Life–aiming to "merely stabilise individuals, allowing them to continue functioning in a society that produces and perpetuates that very depression."
