Looking back at what was quite a blur last week, closing a spectacular run of The Hours with my @metopera debut! Thank you @nezetseguin for having the belief that I could do this, three years ahead of time- your faith in me is the greatest gift.
So grateful to my family and friends all over who made the trip and navigated a cyberattack-induced ticket situation to be there for me.

Le chef @kenshowatanabe a fait un retour remarqué à l’Orchestre Métropolitain pour nous offrir une lecture vibrante de la Symphonie n° 5 de Tchaïkovski.
Nous avons également eu le bonheur d’entendre le concerto pour basson inédit du compositeur Airat Ichmouratov, commandé par l’OM, brillamment interprété par Michel Bettez.

Last night, violin soloist Aubree Oliverson took the stage at Mahaffey Theater and shared what Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 has meant throughout her musical journey 🎻Then she carried that story into every corner of the hall with remarkable virtuosity.
The evening marked TFO debuts for both Aubree and guest conductor Kensho Watanabe, in a program featuring Brian Raphael Nabors’ Pulse, Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5.
Shoutout to the Boys and Girls Club, who also joined us for a backstage tour in our Strings Project program.

🎼 In Silent Night, the orchestra sets the stage for massive chaos and tender, intimate moments in Kevin Puts’s award-winning score. Hear from Conductor Kensho Watanabe how musical colors and themes tell this vivid wartime story.
A look back to last December when I had the honor of conducting @tokyophilharmonicorchestra and @newnationaltheatretokyo chorus in their annual performances of Beethoven 9 - a tradition that began in Japan organized by German POWs in 1918. Today, “Daiku” is performed an estimated 250-300 times in December, as the work has woven itself into the fabric of Japanese culture.
What a special experience it was to return to the country of my birth to participate in this tradition for the very first time, with an orchestra that I’ve been lucky enough to get to know well over the last few years.
