honored to be joining this year’s cohort of the BMI Lehman Engel writers workshop! feeling thrilled to be diving into this program as a composer and to have the chance to develop new work in a program that has been a home and a launching pad for so many of my favorite composers, lyricists, and librettists huge thanks to BMI members @jamesgharvey and @bannah_hakke for their guidance in the application process and to my ride-or-dies @carolyn.bacon and @itsmeliamforde for performing my works for the committe. can’t wait to get started!

more tunes from ballet class… One of my favorite scores is @scottfrankelny and Michael Korie’s Grey Gardens. ‘Will You’, at the end of the first act, encapsulates the tragic yearning of the show: a longing for something past, and maybe something that never was. For some reason, slow music in 4/4 often doesn’t seem to land right for dancers, so i 3/4-ify a lot of tunes, like this one (sorry Scott). Sometimes it doesn’t work, but i think it’s a mark of a truly solid composition when it does. (And the lyrics? “When wild geese of autumn fly, will you? When hearth-fires of winter die, will you?” come onnn) A perfect gem of a song.
