In this Short, perinatal therapist Stephanie Reisinger explains why it’s so hard for overwhelmed parents to even know what they need let alone ask for it and gives exact phrases you can use instead. Swap vague offers for specific actions: “I’m bringing you a meal this week, which day works?”, “I’m at the store, what can I grab you?”, or “I’ll hold the baby while you shower or nap.” She also reminds us that moms in the U.S. get far less community support than in many other cultures, even though humans are wired to thrive in community.
