16-23.03.26
Diorama is pleased to announce that Kauri Sorvari will undertake a [đđđđ] đđđšđđđđŁđđź at the studio this spring. During the residency, they will develop material for the upcoming premiere of đđ€đ§đđ«đđ§đąđ€đ§đ, which will be presented at @kiasmatheatre , Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, invited by @balticcircle festival in November 2026.
The creation for six dancers explores the embodiment of romantic desire as a poetic, choreographed, and experiential activity on stage. Gestures of passionâpassio / sufferingâare approached as manufactured, eternal, mysterious, and rhythmic choreographic possibilities. Familiar expressions of longing and devotion are revisited through movement, voice, and collective presence.
At Diorama, Sorvari focuses on writing scores and notation for stage â actions that operate in the area where intimacy coordination or choreography meet. Sorvari will explore thinking through dancing, experiment with howling, rehearse choral music, and ask who Cupid really was. Discursive and cultural referencesâsuch as The Agony of Eros by Byung-Chul Han, as well as iconic scenes from modern dance and cinemaâserve as starting points for the creative process at Diorama.
Kauri Sorvari is a performer and dance maker working across the fields of performing arts between Berlin and Helsinki. Their work is driven by the poetics and raw vulnerability communicated through dancing and music in the fleeting moment of performance. Through their work, Sorvari explores how artistic practice can generate a sense of belonging through an emotional, sense-making, and communicative body.
Sorvariâs work is currently supported by Kone Foundation, among other institutions and residency programs.
[đđđđ] is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion

I remember crawling on all fours along the long beach of Playa de Benijo, pitch black and volcanic sand. On the shore, there were dozens and dozens of dead, blue-colored jellyfishâPortuguese man oâ war. I was crawling toward the sunset, loud white waves breaking on my left, my hands trying to avoid touching the deadly poisonous blue medusas as I slowly made my way across the dark sand.
I had very few thoughts that momentâonly humble ones, quiet ones. I was mute in the face of this beauty that is dying in front of us.
I thought, I canât do much more but crawl.
Thank you for facilitating the premiere @teatterimuseo and for this gorgeous opportunity to present our work on the big screen in Maneesi. đȘŒ
âMatalapaine - The skin in the wind before theâ is running every half an hour until end of August.
Every last Wednesday of the month 16-19h you can enter for free, or show your museum card to enter more affordably.
Pleasure to sit next to my long term colleague Vilma TihilÀ that I really respect.
What a joy to portray our creation next to Taavitsainenâs @meluludelulu beautiful film and hear about their practice around multidisciplinary artistry.
Matalapaine is a film where something that has started moving once, wonât stop no more. Itâs a film where destruction, fog and fear are on the horizon, where dawn and sunset are one. The winds are about to change, but itâs impossible to predict the weather.
Thank you

âMatalapaine â The skin in the wind before theâ on tanssielokuva hetkestĂ€, jossa joku nuolaisee sormea, nostaa sen ilmaan ja tuntee kuinka tuulen suunta on muuttumassa.
