Hello! 👋🏼 I wanted to spend a few moments introducing myself on instagram 😊 My name is Katie Yip and I am a Pilates teacher and the founder of @_paradigmstudio in New York City. I was born in Texas, raised in Silicon Valley, and have now called the Big Apple home for ten years! What I love about the Pilates method is that it is a smart, thorough, and well-balanced system of physical fitness. Everything is already in the method itself; bodies can make genuine and long-lasting change by operating within this framework. We came into this world pre-programmed with movement knowledge, however lose these abilities due to lifestyle habits, aging, and lack of physical activity. Only through deliberate practice and thoughtful application of the method can we regain these abilities! My approach to the method is driven by the notion that all exercises within the system are guided by shared movement principles and patterns. In my studio, I advocate learning movement solutions through exploration, practice, and play via task and environmental design. By considering an individual’s unique set of characteristics and how they interact with exercise and environmental demands, we can curate bespoke Pilates programs. Thank you for following and please do not hesitate to message me if you have any questions. I look forward to interacting with you all on the platform! 🙋🏻‍♀️👽

So many splits, so little time! When selecting which split to give, Russian Splits or Front Splits, here are a few things to consider: 1. Which exercise position is accessible? If they lack the ability to get into the position, they lack the ability to learn anything productive that position could teach them. 2. Choose the variation that removes the student’s ability to compensate. Our aim is to reprogram inefficient movement habits, not strengthen dysfunctional ones. 3. Determine which parts of the exercise move against and which parts move with the spring resistance. Moving the carriage out is a concentric action working against spring resistance, a more demanding action. Bringing the carriage home is an eccentric action working with spring resistance, a more passive action requiring less work. 4. Consider which body parts are connected to the carriage and which are connected to the foot bar. Those connected to the carriage are the primary drivers of movement, while those connected to the foot bar are the stabilizing structures. Given these four considerations, what are the primary differences between the two splits variations and what would make one more suitable for a student over another? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

When we use Pilates as corrective exercise, our aim is to remove opportunities for compensation. We first develop proper technique and then build strength on top of that, paying close attention to avoid reinforcing dysfunctional movement patterns. Compensation is a universal reality. No matter how inefficient, our bodies build movement strategies around poor mobility, dysfunctional patterns, and old injuries to avoid further harm. The Pilates system gives us the framework to assess those limitations, align the body, and apply load strategically, so we can replace compensations with new solutions that move us out of dysfunction. How we thoughtfully curate and apply this system is what makes the difference between just a workout and long-term progression in the Method. Join me in Korea at @pilgrimgym.pilates for Assess. Align. Apply. — A Systematic Approach to Pilates Programming this September 18-21st. This four day intensive teaches you to design individualized Pilates sessions methodically, efficiently, and with clear frameworks that help clients move better and feel better. Align. Apply. (A Systematic Approach to Pilates Programming)” 워크숍에 함께해 주세요. I look forward to meeting you there!

Here’s a glimpse into one of my recent workouts on the Baby Chair…exploring a new connection through my Powerhouse and upper body! 👀 The discipline of maintaining regular workouts, whether independent or guided by another teacher, keeps me mentally and physically engaged, and continually inspired by this work. It’s never a grind or a chore, but something I get to do, not have to do. The more I do this work, the more I realize that Pilates is a pathway to self-discovery. Through it, we build patience and self-awareness, and learn that we’re far more capable than we think. Layer by layer, and through every workout, we uncover a little more truth about ourselves. And after 20 years of practicing Pilates, I’m thrilled to still be finding new muscles!

“This Seoul workshop is an immersive and intimate experience where we will connect and learn together as a single team. We have designed these four days to be intensive, allowing you to focus entirely on Pilates within a supportive and collaborative environment. Typically, this kind of workshop is taken only once a year; the remaining months are a precious time for you to refine these skills in your own practice and truly make them your own. In an era where Pilates has become generic and commodified, mastering an individualized approach backed by solid evidence will be your most powerful tool to stand out from the crowd.” -케이티 입 📌 Registration opens on Tuesday, May 5th at 9:00 AM 🇰🇷 KST (Monday, May 4th, 8:00 PM 🇺🇸 EDT) 정규 등록은 5월 5일 (화) 오전 9시에 시작합니다. 🔜 To access the registration form, please contact us anytime after the launch! 📲010-3415-5823 🔗 Click [SIGN UP] /workshops/katie-yip-in-korea-september-2026 💜 Please let us know if you would like to register. @pilatesseattle is coming back to @paradigmstudionyc for a special class…Exploration of the Principles of Pilates Part 1! The why and the how behind every movement in Pilates is rooted in the six foundational principles: concentration, centering, control, breath, precision, & flow. These principles are what make the Pilates Method unlike anything else. Without an understanding of how the principles govern the Method, Pilates becomes just another workout. But when we’re able to apply them creatively, intentionally, and effectively we gain the tools to create meaningful, lasting change. In part 1 of this workshop, Lauren Stephen will guide you through the principles of concentration, flow and precision in your Mat and Reformer work. Open to both students and teachers alike, this class is designed to help you deepen your understanding of the work, maximize the benefits of your personal practice, and build lasting confidence in movement. Reconnect with the why of Pilates, and leave with a deeper, more purposeful practice! Class is available both in studio and virtually at /sign-up 💻
