The Female Gaze is almost here!!! In case you haven't seen The Mad Libbers' Tea Party", it's probably the exact thing you need at this moment when you might be thinking, "How can I think about going out to a show when I am swirling in existential anxiety and wondering if at any moment entire civilizations will be obliterated?" Here are two pics of Kathy and me in action at our recent performance of it at the Every Woman Biennial in NYC! Come help us smash the patriarchy! We promise it will help! with @cellochaplin @maddysingsopera @amelia_flute @bonniemiksch @kathyexploding

There’s a legend in our midst. ☄️ “What Ms. Supové is really exploding is the piano recital as we have known it, a mission more radical and arguably more needed.” Anthony Tommasini, NY Times In May, 2012, Kathleen Supové (@kathyexploding ) received the John Cage Award from ASCAP for “the artistry and passion with which she performs, commissions, records, and champions the music of our time.” Yamaha Artist Kathleen Supové has premiered, promoted, and recorded works by a Who’s Who of today’s composers, both established and emerging. She annually presents a series of solo concerts entitled THE EXPLODING PIANO. She has performed with Yamaha Disklaviers, video, poets, laptop orchestras, robots, and XReality. To date, Ms. Supové has 5 solo albums, here in chonological order: Figure 88, Infusion, The Exploding PIano, The Debussy Effect, and Eye To Ivory. As a composer, Ms. Supové has been commissioned by Bargemusic, Ladies First, The Illustrated Pianist project, Kyo Shin An Arts, the Brooklyn Arts Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts. In November, 2023, she presented her own 3-D graphic score composition, SWARMING MECHANISMS OF CONFINEMENT, dealing with objects we would want with us if we were confined to bed or on our deathbed, funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. A second NYSCA grant is currently allowing her to create the work BLURRY BARDO, approaching the subject of decay, memory, passing on to the next life, all surrounding difficult scores she has performed thoughout her career. I'm super excited to announce that I was awarded a 2026 Portland Area Theater Alliance (PATA) "GROW" grant to produce three performances of my audience-interactive performance art piece "Taking Liberties" as part of the 2026 Fertile Ground Festival of New Works in Portland, OR with guest pianist Kathleen Supové @kathyexploding ! In these premiere showings of this new work, the audience will determine the course of events. As we two pianists play an extended duet, the audience is invited to interact with us in specific ways, and what happens next will create the fate of the music. "INTERACT HOW??" you may ask? I couldn't possibly spoil the secret! You'll just have to show up and find out!! Do not miss this, Portland! What will be revealed as this sonic social experiment unfolds? Each performance will be presented in a different way: Tuesday, April 14 @ 7:30 pm = great for general audiences Friday, April 17 @ 10 pm = "late night"-themed!! This is a new thing for me, heaven knows. Let's say, without giving away too much, that this one won't be crossing any lines that would tie anyone's knickers in a bunch; but it will be a little surprising and thought-provoking... Sunday, April 19 @ 5:30 pm = family-friendly: bring your kids!
