I just want to state for the record that I do in fact take my lecturing role very seriously 🤓 especially around this time of year where it’s back to back end of year shows and assessment, but it’s good to keep it real and have fun with your students whilst you frantically try to install their show in time for a PV beer!
Last week it was the Year 2 arts festival @we_create_fest in Farnham and this week Year 1 @ucafarnhamart and @ucafarnhamphoto hitting Guildford with their most excellent show ‘eh.vree.bo.dee’ at New House Art Space @newhouseartspace . If you are in the area please do stop in and see it. They’ve worked so hard to fundraiser and put this on. For many of them the first time exhibiting outside an education setting. I salute you guys! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

I’ve been having my annual spring clean in the studio today and found pinned to the wall behind some precariously stacked boxes a collage I made from 2020 called ‘Herd’. Made in the early weeks of Covid, when I had the sensation that we were standing on the brink of a precipitous. I kept thinking about the myth of lemmings jumping off a cliff, or rather Earth trying to cleanse herself of us. Over the past few weeks I’ve found myself uplifted by the Artemis II mission. It reminded me of the fevered obsession I had when I first saw the images taken by Voyager 1 and 2 of Saturn. And if I’m honest perhaps Horton Hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss where Horton the elephant discovers that an entire civilization, Whoville, lives on a speck of dust located on a clover flower. It’s all so precarious.
I’m not just in awe of the level of crazy bravery you must have to fire yourself into space, but the perspectives on this beautiful marble floating in space that we are all living on. The world stage at present is a bloody mess right now, the wrong people have too much power, and do we really need that much distance from it too see what it really is? The collage I made nearly 6 years ago feels just as relevant as it did then.
