Gargantuan news, y’all: Wolpie Of The Woods has been officially selected in COMPETITION at thee Annecy International Film Festival!!! I’m beside myself. This is the highest honor I can imagine as an indie stop motion filmmaker. I made this film as a love letter to stop motion, a call to recognize and stand against systemic harm, and most of all, to introduce everyone to my imaginary friend. I’m beyond excited that Wolpie resonated with the team behind the biggest and most important animation festival in the world. This recognition is overwhelming in the best way. For the prestige, yes, but even more so because this animation was only made possible through the support and creative contributions of everyone who believed in me and my idea. Crew, fans, and loved ones alike. I’m deeply humbled and immensely proud. Endless gratitude to Silverlake Shorts for funding the film through their inaugural fellowship. Big shoutouts to my producers Arsalan Asli and George Steven Tunis, who’ve championed it from day one. More to come soon. Follow Wolpie’s official account for the teaser trailer, collaborator shoutouts, BTS, and a peek behind the duvatine at this scrappy DIY process. We did it!!! Thank you, thank you everyone. All the love! @annecyfestival @kat.messing @silverlakeshorts @arsalan.asli @jeffersonk.mcraspberry #annecyinternationalanimationfilmfestival #annecy #annecy2026 #stopmotion #stopmotionanimation #indiefilm #puppet

Hey everybody! This Thusday night, Titmouse is hosting two screenings of their annual and acclaimed 5 Second Day at Vidiots. If you're in the LA area, and are a fan of uncensored, underground indie animation- come check it out! I've got a short in the lineup! Two showings! Tix link in my bio! Here's the animation that I made for LAST year's five second day, "Farrago." (Plus a quick pic of the lil guy making his debut in this year's screening as well). I've had a blast making these. Big kudos to @titmouseinc for uplifting artists! Come support hand crafted & hand drawn animation made by humans! I'd love to see ya there!

@kat.messing is a stop motion animator/filmmaker from Maine whose short "Vermin Beings" won the Grand Jury Prize for 60 second films at the Slamdance Film Festival! Her next project will be part of the fellowship program for our pals at @silverlakeshorts . She's killin' it & her short "Farrago" will be screened at #5SecNight25 @vidiots next Friday, 3/28. Only a handful of tickets left! /5-second-day/ 🦴 Tell us about your short and the inspiration behind it. "Time got the best of me and I had 3 days to left to submit something, so I just decided to completely wing it and ransack my apartment for strange little objects lying around and experiment with how to transition between them in interesting ways." 🦴 What was the process like? "There was no time to overthink the concept. I [wanted to] edit the animation to be in sync with music. I spent the first day finding a track I liked, sourcing all the random melange of items to use, watching a few other animations on YouTube for inspiration & doing camera tests. I animated on top of a tablecloth of black duvetyne & boosted the contrast in post so you couldn't tell it was shot on fabric. This eliminated the need for any consistent spatial perspective, looked cool & [let] me avoid tedious compositing. The 2nd and 3rd days were for animating and post. I [played] with creating replacement object morph-type effects because they're mesmerizing to watch [and] it's surprisingly dynamic!" 🦴 Had you done something like this before? "I work in the editorial dept at Titmouse, but I endeavor to work on several stopmo projects every year. Without that DIY filmmaking experience I'd never have been able to turn something around so quickly! My personal favorite part is the egg albumen. Practical fluid effects are SO MUCH FUN. I had no idea whether I could get an egg to crack open and turn into a baby chick before I started shooting!" 🦴 Any interesting anecdotes to share? "The monster in the beginning is made out of the lower mandible of a sun-bleached sheep's jaw that I found hiking in Iceland ten years ago. I smuggled it home and have been wanting to animate it ever since." #5SecondDay

Shoutout post to newfound friends and the creative cohorts from Slamdance!! Aside from seeing the actual films, the best part of the festival was connecting with the people who crafted them. A breath of fresh air to engage with stories outside of algorithmically recommended content. Please check out their work! Balm for the soul, all of it. @beccaschall and @jessicacatnap of @accountablecomedy won the Summer Chastant Award for Victorian Ladies. The screams I scrumpt laughing at these ingénue shenanigans. Check them out here: https://bit.ly/3DnvD3j @alexnkaplan and @prophetloon are other 6XTY second film compatriots! Their short SAFE ended with an endearingly wholesome surprise. Aww. https://bit.ly/3F9hFm1 @benkjar is a legend of athletic prowess and a truly noble warrior. His presence radiates warmth and strength and it is only appropriate that he was selected as the Spirit of Slamdance this year. A privilege to meet you, sir. / @cameronmakesmovies won double honors and has worked for decades on @disposablehumanity bringing to light the injustice of Germany’s T4 program in WW2. Did you know they tested out gas chambers on their own disabled citizens to make sure they worked well enough for ethnic cleansing? The rollback of DEI could be a chilling harbinger of history repeating itself if left unchecked. It’s crucial to be civically engaged right now. If you need a profound argument in favor of punching nazis, this is it. / @teresagraydontplay247 cured me of insecurity after we met at the bar Musso and Frank’s after day one of the festival. (Sisterhood in the form of martinis and baked potatoes!) It’s something she does on the daily via hair transformations as the Attitude Adjuster. Thank you for helping me and anyone lucky enough to find your chair to reclaim ourselves. https://bit.ly/4iwWB7r @officialcindymich is a tireless advocate for filmmakers and generously offered me a crash course in public presentation. She doesn't suffer fools gladly and is clearly an expert of the craft. Thanks for showing me how it's done. http://bit.ly/4hd0MUV Genuinely inspiring to meet you all. Til next year!

Holy smokes. Vermin Beings WON its category at Slamdance! I am insanely grateful to have won the Sparky award. Talk about a feather in the cap. Take that, inferiority complex! I am genuinely honored to be among this talented, scrappy and diverse community of indie storytellers. Especially as a stop-motion director, since there were only a few of us. Major, major thank you to @slamdancegroup and all the organizers. I must also shout out my compatriots who helped craft this short with me: @scoopsnation , @kalelbogdanove @unfortunateplottwist and @lego_hans_solo . I couldn't have done it without you. Slamdance online festival continues through March 7. There is a trove of meaningful styles and stories made by passionate people streaming there, and I implore everyone who can to check out the films available. They are a breath of fresh air and the antithesis of "content". More posts to follow as fancy red carpet photos roll in! Thank you everyone for the ongoing enthusiasm and support for my work! @stopmolovers @animationwildcard @hot30shorts @silverlakeshorts #stopmotion #stopmotionanimation #animation #indiefilmmaking #slamdance
