First & foremost I wanna thank the Most High 4 life because I’m blessed and highly favoured. Thankful for my family for always believing in me (@sanch1 @shelleymorrison11 siblings extraordinare). I’m honoured to be included in this exhibition that encompasses Black culture and its influence on contemporary art in the 21st century. Give thx to @muholizanele for taking the photo back in 2008. @drkmontague for acquiring the photo and including it in his @thewedgecollection . Shout outs to @julie_zacfilms amazing curatorial job. To @emcroning for her work on this project and to whoever else was influential in including my portrait in this exhibition. Big ups to @tooblackguys for paving the way from time. I’m honoured to be repping Toronto in your gear (pls bring back boxers cuz mine are no longer). I’m on the 5th floor of @agotoronto till April. I’ve worked really hard all my life to to showcase the greatness Toronto possesses because I’m great and the talent this city has is incredible. This is for the 4 year old me who started drawing in between the two beds in my bedroom that I shared with my sisters. For the five year old me who’s kindergarten teacher mrs. Forrest thought volunteering to put me in the jail cell and slam the door shut on are class trip from west prep to the police station was a great example of something to do. Y’all laughed at me while I cried inside that cell. Fuck you to every last one of you for that experience. While you thought my body and mind was meant for a cell little did you know that my genius was meant to be in museums and art galleries. I’ve independently been documenting art and culture in Toronto for over 2 decades and making art for over 40 yrs as a visual artist. My last solo show was entitled “While You Were Sleeping On Me” which was a culmination of a 7.5 month residency I had where I made almost 100 pieces. Not a lot of people came out to see wha gwann cuz you stayed asleep. The Most High will wake people up in front of your face and be in awe of the places you end up while hating the fact that you’re in the room. When you see me make sure to fix your face cuz you’re witnessing greatness. Wake up cuz I’m here 👑❤️🇯🇲🇬🇭✊🏿

Still feeling the magic from Thursday’s opening of Blessed And Highly Favoured curated by @dcliss @kofflerarts . Give thx to everyone who showed up means more than you’ll ever know. My brother’s mother Pat called me the next day and told me my ancestors would be proud! I believe that. I’m in the building till May 3rd making magic and creating more blessed vibes for y’all to experience. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday 12:30-5pm extended hours till 8pm on Thursdays. Tomorrow Sunday March 29th I’ll be doing an artist talk at 2:30pm in my space after @gillian_iles talk downstairs at 1pm it’s free so pull up and hear what we have to say. A Mi Dat. Blessed And Highly Favoured: An exhibition and residency by Kalmplex curated by @dcliss @kofflerarts has concluded. These are the works I created in my 5 week residency. Larger than life. Forever grateful. 3.5/4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from @thetorontostar 1 of 4 exhibition of the spring not to be missed by @globeandmail . As an independent artist that’s been a cultural producer in Toronto from time this opportunity and accolades mean the world to me. I painted on large canvases, used gold/copper/silver leaf, black and white sand gel. Experimenting with new materials on a large scale was a vibe. My show was about celebrating greatness. I created a healing space for everyone to vibe to. I’m appreciative of everyone who took the time to experience it. You felt the blessings that pictures couldn’t do justice. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to encourage people in this life’s journey from toddlers to the elders. Shining bright like the sun and never dimming my light for anyone. This is what it looks like when you give people the resources and space to create. We can’t let these corrupt politicians who don’t care about the people to continue to cut funding/spaces where people come to progress. Art in Toronto from visual to music is vital for a world class city to have. Funding the arts and culture is imperative a thriving city/world. Looking forward to what the future holds and the new spaces I’ll be animating with my creative energy. Give thx and praise to the Most High for life. 👑🙌🏿❤️🇯🇲🇬🇭🏆✌🏿
